Where to look for past discussions
-
Looking for help to find the information on the gold paint for the engines and also the "Dove Gray" paint on the convertible top parts. I know there are past discussions on these subjects but not able to find the right location on the forum. ~X( Thanks!! Bill
-
I think you could write what you are searching for in the top right rectangle where it is written: Search. Hope this will help you! Michel
-
I've tried this a number of times - I do the search (above right), hit the Go button, and get NO results - however it takes me to another search screen, and I enter the same information in, a second time, in the 'center' area of the screen. It then displays search results, and I can scroll down to the bottom & see 'more results'...
Good luck - -
Hey guys. I'd be interested to hear from you what search terms are returning no results.
Re. the 'dove gray' question, I did a search on the term 'dove' and found a thread called "Interesting paint...." - http://www.classiccar.com/forum/discussion/comment/120495#Comment_120495
Is that the old discussion you're after?
By the way, here's something I learnt about the search function. If you type the search term "dove gray", the search will look for the following: dove gray, dove, gray. So it will return a number of results you don't want. The trick to working with a multi-word search term is to place a + sign in front of the search term - so: +dove gray
I hope this helps. But I'd also be interested to hear these search terms @46HudsonPU tried that returned no results.

Bill are you signed in when you attempt the search? The results you get are dependent on you status on the forum. Stranger status is not signed in.
Good Luck

@ScottFitzgerald - Interesting... When in 'Discussions', I typed-in "Dove Gray" into the search box (without the quotes) and clicked the 'Go' button. It returned NO results, however advanced me to the 'Search Results' screen, where I entered the information into the middle Search window, and clicked 'Search'. There, it returned numerous results (?)...
HOWEVER - When in 'Discussions', I then typed-in "Dove Gray" into the search box (without the quotes) and pressed the ENTER key. There, it took me to the 'Search Results' screen, and returned numerous results -
It appears that the "Go" button for the Search window does not function as it should (?). -
Hi Ken. Yes I am signed in and like Rick (46HudsonPU) said, I have had the same experience. When I enter "dove" or "+dove" it says no results. If I enter it a second time on the next page it will bring up the old threads that I was looking for from the "Masters"... Bill, Russell and Dennis!!
Scott, That seems to be my problem, that I have to enter it twice to find the older threads that I am looking for. Thanks for all your help.....when it comes to computers I need a lot of help!!
Thanks to everyone who helps in educating us guys who love Hudsons!! Bill -
Odd. I get the same search results whether I'm signed in or not. I also get the same results on the Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers. I type in the search term, and then I'm taken to a page with the search box right across the page, and all the results underneath.
@46HudsonPU and @402Bowtie - you're both using Internet Explorer?
Could I ask you Rick to email me a screenshot of this no results screen, along with the URL of the page? -
There does appear to be a problem, Scott. At least with IE. I searched for vapor lock, an old favorite, with or without the + preceding. No go. Then tried paint, NG. Then searched Kgap. This to was no results found, even though only a few days ago I myself commented on kgap.

@ScottFitzgerald - I am using IE 8.
As described in my last post, it appears that the 'Go' button does not work as it should. If I enter the search information into the window and press Enter on the keyboard, the search window works fine. If I enter the search information into the window and click the 'Go' button, NO results.
It is as if the information entered into the 'window' is not being read/recognized (?) if I don't hit Enter on the keyboard (i.e., I hit the 'Go' button, and the system is not reading the information entered into the search window) - Odd/difficult to explain... -
I'm firing up a PC now (uggh) to have a look at how IE behaves for me...
-
Scott.... Firefox report
As is stated above... the GO BUTTON... is bringing back mixed responses, some non desired results along with desired results. I used my Keyboard ENTER button as the execute button and got what was expected with and with out preceding discriminator characters or quotation marks. I was surprised the ENTER and GO buttons are not the same execution activators for Vanilla.

OK. As I see it, search works if I type in the term and press 'Enter', but if I use the 'Go' button it returns "No results for ."
I'll ticket this and have the developers look at it. It's an Internet Explorer issue only. Damn Microsoft and its non-adherence to standards! -
@Heart_Of_Texas I'm not seeing any variation with results on Firefox (for PC).
I checked using Firefox for Mac (version 11.0) and Firefox for PC (version 7.0.1) - what version are you using? -
@ScottFitzgerald - "Damn Microsoft and its non-adherence to standards!"
Scott - I fully understand, believe me... IMHO, Microsoft - as a company and innovator, is both arrogant, conceited, self-important, & so full of themselves that I have no doubt that they consider themselves as 'The Standard'. (i.e., Microsoft believes that if they go a different 'route', the industry will change or adjust to comply with it). -
@46HudsonPU I never was a fan of Internet Explorer, instead I used Firefox until it became too much like bloatware, then I switched to Safari. I've been using Chrome now for 6 months, and find it by far the best of the bunch.
-
I tried that +dove gray - and got posts going back to Noah - but little concerning dove gray. I tried +dove and again got post going back to Noah with little concerning dove, dove gray, gray or pigeons. I'm using Firefox and I'll admit I get some quirky things using it. For example I almost have to use IE to open files in the online library - Firefox takes forever.

Just passing. No time for me to read all but, I just tried and put KGap on the search button and it gave me at least 31 topics with KGap in the title or in the answers and it went back to august 2011. Will come back tomorrow and read more about it. Michel.

Hello all. The developers have applied a fix, and as far as I can see, Search now behaves for Internet Explorer users. Those of you that had the issue seeing 'No results' returned, are you now seeing search results whether you press the 'Go' button on screen or 'Enter' on your keyboards?
-
I see alot of random posts that are not related to the search request. I hope this info can help work out the kinks. I typed: Hudson engine color. Lee O'Dell
-
Hey Lee. I'm looking a little deeper into how search works. Can I also ask you, that search term, "Hudson engine color" - it's something that has definitely been discussed in the past? As that specific set of words?
-
I do not remember what the specific set of words were. Lee O'Dell
-
I believe the "GO" button is working now Scott, but like Lee says, a lot of random posts pop up that are not related to the request. I entered +dove gray and some of todays discussions pop up that have none of the key words listed. I enter "gold engine" and this should bring up past discussions of the gold paint used on the engines but it will bring up "rebuilding 175 splasher" and "54 Hornet blows white smoke" and these discussions don't have the word gold in it. I'm using pc version 7.0.1. Can the key words be made to to show up bold in past discussions? Anyone else having this problem? Thanks for your help Scott.
-
@402Bowtie and Lee. I've had a look at this, and learnt a little more about MySQL and boolean full text search than I really needed :)
I just have a few emails to send to have more of an answer on this, both for myself and for here on the forum.
