1932 Coupe fuel sender

Hallo,
step by step we go forward, another detail-problem appeared: the fuel sender is rotted. I dont know which ohm-range I need for the fuel sender. Original part is hard to find or impossible, but who knows, perhaps somebody has a unit which fits in his part collection for sale, please let me know it ? Can use another aftermarket part GM-parts (chevy) for example they have a universal 5 hole sender that seems to fit from 0.30 ohm and 0-90 ohm for cars 1930-50 ?

I just spoke, on the telephone, to the owner of a 1932 coupe. He does not know of any sending unit which will interchange with the Hudson for 1932.
However, he suggests that you detach the wire from the sending unit, and touch it to the frame of the car. The dashboard gauge should then register "full" (or is it "empty"? I cannot recall which!). If not, then the dashboard gauge is broken, not the sender!
Another problem, may be that the sending unit is no longer grounded to the frame of the car (due to rust problems). Have you tried connecting a wire to a good ground, on the body, and then touching the body of the fuel sender? If you have a bad ground, this will reveal it!
If the problem is neither with the ground connection at the tank, nor with the fuel gauge on the dashboard, then your sending unit is broken. But perhaps all that is necessary, is to dismantle the unit and clean the inside. Possibly the electrical mechanism from another 6-volt automobile can be substituted inside the fuel sender? -

I rebuild mine. If you're patient, you can even replace the wire on the reostat inside, or make a new one. Drill out rivets, then remove the part that holds the winding. Usually you'll mess this up removing it, so I just make a new one on the lathe. Spring steel is available (clock spring works well). Cuss a lot, take coffee breaks, maybe a long walk with the dog, but don't give up.
