This is improvement?
-
Sorry, I don't think so. What a cluster****!
After WAY too much frustrating computer time getting nowhere, I finally sneaked around the end to get registersed through my work email address and using a new username. Sheese!
When I tried to use my old name and my old email address, I would get this lovely message--"Dear user, your account had been registered before the 28.08.2010, since that time password encryption algorytm was changed and it can't be inverted. If you have problems with authorization, we recommend to reset your password." What kind of Chinese jargen is that?
Then, I would try to reset my password, get an email to do so, and there would be no way to reset the PW. Instead I get to look at the ass end of another '57 Chevy! Wonderful.
I kept contacting the operators of the site, they would give me options of new mumbo-jumbo to type in, but nothing worked. When I'd try to get in with a different name (handle) I would get a message that someone with my email was already registered! Locked-out! My password encryption algorytm was changed and it couldn't be inverted! Oh, the pain!
What the hell did we do to deserve this? Didn't we buy enough Hudson parts from somebody?
You can bet that there's a bunch of our old gang out there that can't get back on--many of them probably just gave up.
This is a forum for older guys, sometimes not with much computer savy, into older cars that haven't been built for decades?
Give me a brake.
Sorry for the rant fellows. I just don't see any improvement--only the effective lock-out of a lot of our pals...slim
By the way---Happy Easter. -
By the way, Moderator, sir, is there anyway I can change my name from my work email address to my old handle denverslim? I thought I asked for this in the register applications. Thanks, slim

Hello Keith,
We do apologise, and we have been working all weekend - all the long Easter weekend - to fix these issues as they pop up. All we ask is that you give us a few days to work out the kinks, for the forum software people from Canada to come back online after their long weekend, and shortly you'll see no issues, and a forum that runs on better software than previously. There have been comments from some of the senior Hudsonites that they liked some of the new features, so I anticipate a smoother experience in a day or two.
Again, we apologise. In no way would we have wished this rocky transition to have occurred. -
Thanks for the post, we are of course working in the best interest of the community over Easter to get things running smoothly, I view it as a the first few miles after a restoration, of course there will be misfires and issues that need addressing, Soon it'll be back on the road - better than ever before.
We created a known issues post that contains this issue as critical issue #1. This issue applies to those with accounts older than X.
In your case, you've now joined as a new user and are asking to set your username to one that already exists (that you cannot access). We will await a fix and will clean up for you.
You will be first to know when your specific issue has been dealt with and you're back firing on all cylinders.Classic Car Lover -
I guess I'm not blaming you fellows for what's happened, seems like you're trying to fix the mess. Fact is it IS a mess though. Sorry for sounding so grouchy, but something happened to our old garage where we used to sit around and talk Hudsons and a lot of us are much better at fixing old cars than reading small print jargon and navigating around websites.
I would like to request that my work email address be removed from public view and denverslim (or almost anything else) be inserted. Possible?...slim -
I notice that the "known issues post" is closed to new discussions. Sort of prevents new problems from creeping up, eh?
Thanks loads, gents for changing out my "handle"...slim -
Are we going to be able to get print versions of these threads like we did on the old site??
J Lombard -
Well, looks like I finally was able to log on with my pic, wont know until I leave this comment session. But so far, so good. Been trying to keep up and read the posts without commenting, glad to see some really nice comments and advice. Another forum member and I are taking a Jr college Machinist course(he's a machinist, I'm not) so 5 hrs four nites per week are taking a lot of my free time. Making some stuff to help me to better work on my cars. Hope ya'll had a good Easter, drive safely. Bob P

@J Lombard I've just looked that up, and it seems the support for making PDF versions of threads to print was dropped from Kunena (the name of the old forum software). You could just use the Print instruction on the browser, or even copy the text into Word, or some other text editor.
-
If you use the print from the browser option, you get literary everything on the browser's page. This takes up a lot of unnecessary paper space, and makes for a messy copy. Whereas with PDF, you get a nice clean copy of the actual comments. It would be nice to have that option back again. -Michael
-
Also, if you try to copy into a Word file, it becomes tedious if you want to copy more than a couple of comments within the post. You would have to copy and paste each comment separately, unless if it doesn't matter if you get avatars, etc. Thanks for listening. -Michael

Hi Michael, oh I know that only too well. I often have to deal with messy formatting in documents. Thing is though, even Kunena dropped the PDF option in its software. I'll ask Vanilla when they come back, but having had a look around their documentation I'm not sure that it's in there as an option.

I have to say that the appearance of this new deal sux. I got the same message that I had registered before the dead sea got sick, yahtayahtayahtaArkie
-
@ArkieJazz We're working on the fix now. All apologies.
-
That's odd about "registering before such and such date . . ." I've been a member since '04 and haven't had any of these issues so far.

Like to hear about those projects when you get a chance. -
Very odd. And doesn't inverted mean upside down? At least in english...slim
