Sweethearts and Orphans XIII

The North Texas Chapter of the HET is sponsering the 13th annual Sweethearts and Orphans Meet on Feb.24th and 25th in Denton, Texas. The attached .pdf file gives all the details. In the past, John Clement has run the meet, but requested that another chapter member take over this year. In a moment of weakness, my wife, Anne Marie, volunteered to take over. You might remember her for running the hospitality room at Oklahoma City. She has planned a stellar meet and pre-registration has included some orphan makes of autos I had never heard of, going back to the 1900's. If any are able to make the trek, we promise a wonderful time for both your Orphan and your Sweetheat. -

The 2012 Sweethearts and Orphans meet is now history.If you did not get to attend, you missed a really GREAT meet. Anne Marie with the help of her husband Don put on a super weekend of fun and cars. This is year 13 for this meet which over the years has been held at several different locations. Denton was great from the first class hotel accommodations to the Saturday assemblage of Orphan cars. This is a different kind of meet for Hudson folks, Orphan car ranks have grown over the past few years and makes like Oldsmobile are now orphans.
Overheard during the meet was origins of several of the cars, what I heard was Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. One participant drove a 28 Packard 100 miles, another spent several suspense filled hours along the I35 in OK after the distributor in his Studebaker failed, our own North Texas Linda Sue set out in her 40 Hudson during her trip the normally trustworthy 2 door left her stranded twice!
The following pictures are but a few of the more than 50 Orphan cars that graced parking lot on Saturday.

Beautiful - thanks for the pics. One of these years I got to figure out how to get over to that meet. It's close enough to Memphis - no worse than OKC last summer.

Thank you for your kind comments. 71 Orphan cars! Anne Marie worked long and hard to see that we had a successful meet, from negotiating a great hotel venue, selecting a wonderful "date night" resturant to providing a most entertaining duo of musicians to serenade us as we ate dinner. I would also like to thank all the members of the North Texas Hudson Dealers who helped with the meet. Best part, we got to debut Anne Marie's black '47 Super Six. We have named her "Morticia". But how come you didn't display a picture of the Yugo? They need love, too! LOL! -

I never even realized the meet was on this last weekend. The Hornet is not quite road ready yet. I have been busy with some other projects. Maybe some year I will have the Hornet and the "three eyed" Tatra T603-1 both at the SH&O meet. I do remember the one time I took my old Tatra T603-2 to SH&0 in 2000, it caused a not so inconsiderable amount of confabulation! YES "confabulation" is a word! Look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls, Websters, or what you got....Kenneth
