Speaking of which, I would like to borrow a '42 Commodore 8 Convertible, a Hudson '37 8 Convertible coupe, a '48 or '49 C8Cv, a . . . oh, heck, that's enough for now. Can be anywhere in the continental US. Give me a call!!

Hopefully someone in Central Florida will hook you up. Is a 54 one of your next upcoming models? Which body style are you going for?
Nice model of the convertible. Is that a special one you guys have done from your coupe kits?
I can't help you with the 54. I'm in Virginia and the one in the background of my avatar would look like one of your kits with half the pieces missing! -
54 is the next on the list to do. Hornet Special is what I'd like to do. The convertible should be out within a few months, this is a builtup of a test shot of the upcoming kit. Great build, I wish I could paint like that myself!

In 2006, when I brought the first convertible back from the NW corner of the country, I stopped at Ken Cates house to show him the car, as he was the one who provided the lead. He asked me what my plans were for the car, as far as looks go. Originally, the car was maroon w/ red & white interior. I told him I had always wanted to do black on top, red on the bottom, below the beltline. Wire wheels, red interior, visor, continental kit on the back. I all ready had it all pictured in my head. After my description, he said, "Wait just a minute, I think I might have something for you." He went inside and perused the thousands of pictures he has of Hudsons and came back out with an album. In it was a picture of the same car in my avatar, but with a 6' White Rabbit behind the wheel. (Longer story about the rabbit). Anyway, I was shocked and a little disappointed that someone had all ready beaten me to the look I thought was going to be mine. Ken told me that he thought the car was gone, now, lost to a house fire.
After several years of searching, I finally found the original owner (with Ken's help). Talked to him on the phone several times and we have e-mailed. He lives in CA, was a HLWYD photographer (now retired). He had the car restored in about 1989, I think and indeed, was the victim of a horrible house fire in 1992. The car was completely destroyed. He sent me 1/2-a-dozen pictures of the car (pre-fire, of course).
The owner of the car in my avatar has told me he would like to make a trip to TX to see my completed convertible.
After my car is completed, I will replace my avatar with a picture of my car, which will be nearly identical to the car pictured there now. -

IMHO, Why Hornet Special, when there are so many more Hornet owners? If you are trying to sell them, I would think the demand would be greater for Hornets. I would be glad to lend you my 54 Hornet, but it is in PA. I can take whatever pictures or measurements in 2 weeks.

Hornet Special is what I'd like to do, not sure it's what will get done. My Dad ran a 54 Hornet Special in Q/S back in the 60's, so it would be nice for that point. But either way, I need a '54 Hornet to scan in Central Florida. Pics and measurements are nice, but a full scan is so much more helpful to capture the body.

George Matt of Waldo has a 54 Hornet Spl. Brougham. I understand it is or has been recently painted. A very nice unmolested car. 352-468-2390. I have lusted after it since I sold one just like it back in 79 or 80.in Orlando.

Are there any good models or kits of stepdown SEDANS, not coupes or converibles around? After all, the sedan is the most popular body style?

I've seen some really good 1/25th scale resin partial kits of a '48-49 Commodore sedan (and coupe) available online, Mikey.

The kits include the body, bumpers, grille, detailed interior tub and simple chassis. Using the chassis and driveline from a Moebius Hornet kit would be a bit "resource intensive" but would result in a very fine replica. That combo is on my project list.Workin Stiff -

If you were indeed responsible for helping to bring those '52 and '53 Hornet kits to market, I'd like to extend my personal thanks. These are excellent kits that are well researched, accurate in all the ways they should be. A '54 Hornet Special would be another fine subject. The brougham body style is particularly handsome, available for the first time on senior models in '54. Hollywood 2dr hardtops were also available. You'll likely get as many suggestions for future subjects as people you ask, but you really should do a google search on Hudson and Terraplane pickups. Kitbashers would love to add those to the project pile.
P.S. - you don't necessarily need to be able to paint like that if you know your way around an LMG polishing kit.Workin Stiff -

Thanks! We tried to get the 52 and 53 as close as we could, a few minor hiccups though. The 54 has been on the books, but we wanted to get through one complete cycle from idea to consumer before we started on another different body. The pickups would be interesting, but we have something else happening before those are in line for a kit. With any luck soon though! On the paint, I know that's a helpful way to do it, but I have so little time any more I haven't built a complete kit in years now. Thanks again!
