I am looking for Essex hub caps and today when I checked out eBay there were 86 entries. Only 3 were for original Essex hub caps. All the rest were post after post for this modern stuff. I am not sure who you complain too, but it really frosts me. (I am supprised that I got through this rant without using foul language!)

    Thanks Brownie,
I'm glad I'm not the only one that's sick of all the modern stuff on the Hudson ebay site.

I tried to find some way to complain to ebay about this intrusion on true Hudson and Essex stuff, but just got a constant run-around the website without actually being to contact them direct. How does on actually get through to them that this stuff is just pissing everybody off?

Brownie, I have a spare '28 Essex hub cap if this is of any use to you.

As long as eBay continues to get their thirty cents for every auction listed, they will never do anything about these guys. As long as these guys continue to get one sucker a month to bite on an auction, they will never stop listing this garbage. I've tried contacting the sellers. I've tried contacting eBay. Unfortunately this is the world we live in, guys... your best bet is to modify your search parameters to comb this trash out.

Thanks Geoff, but I am looking for the 33's that are for the wire wheels. From what I am finding out they are rather hard to find. I have posted a photo a few times but once more will not hurt...

There is an "Refine Search" option menu on the left, I search for "Vintage Car and Truck Parts" within the search results and that cuts out all the accessories rubbish.

The inner part with ESSEX looks like it is made separately from the main hubcap body, ie there appears to be an overlay seam around its circumference? If so, the main body looks like a normal '33 and you can just get the inner part duplicated. There's a guy here in NZ that does this.

On the auction listing on the upper right hand side, there is a "Report Item" icon. Click on that and it takes you to a list report to click on. If enough people start complaining it might make a difference. I send a few compaints in almost every day. They are spam post and nothing more. Sure wish there were another good option for on line auctions.

Been there, tried that a few times. Even though eBay states that they prohibit listing the same item multiple times, they don't seem to care about actually enforcing that.

How do I contact this guy (unrelated project). PM me if appropriate. Thanks.

You are missing the simple exercise of refining your search which has always been possible ever since eBay began. Let's say your search is "Essex hub cap". You will get the 13" ABS wheel covers. A search on "Essex hub cap" at this very moment gives 79 results, most of which are the silly ABS ones.

Now add this to your search putting in whatever terms you want to eliminate from the results "Essex hub cap -(ABS,plastic,13)" etc. The "minus ABS" alone changes the results from 79 to 7 and they are ONLY Essex hub caps.

So whining about eBay's unresponsiveness is totally inappropriate. It is up to us to take the responsibility to learn how to search.

The same crap that is listed for our Hudsons is also listed under every other make out there. I never knew that I could use the same hub caps, seat covers etc on my Hudson and also on my '66 Dodge A100 Van or my '58 F100 pick up. LOL

I didn't know you could do that to remove junk from the search. Thank you for the lesson. I'll try that out.

    Have a great day,

You could put the wheel covers on this car, listed for sale at $99,000 and make it an even hundred grand...:woohoo:

There was a thread on here a couple years ago where someone had worked out a search that eliminated about 95% of the junk- I think I saved it somewhere (probably on a computer that I have since sent to the recycle yard).

I'll see if I can find it.

From the earlier Forum message link above:
Click on the tab that says AUCTIONS ONLY and hit the search button. Then type Hudson, -fits Hudson in the search window, and hit the search button again.

Be sure to include the minus symbol before "fits Hudson".

This will get you all the Hudson automotive items on Ebay, but will reduce the number of items from 5,650 to 452. And nary a plastic hubcap in the bunch.

If you go into "My Ebay" and then into "saved searches" then create a saved search, Ebay will then notify you every day that there in something in your search parameter. Below is an example of my "Saved Search" for 1939 Hudson.
The -t shirt gets rid of a lot of crap.

(1939 Hudson) -antenna -muffler -"grab handle" -"tire cover" -"brake hoses" -"window storage bag" -"t shirt"

    Hope this helps,
