Fuel tank vent
-
I am looking for a fuel tank vent (the little fitting that is on top of the tank). If anyone has a rusted out tank that can't be saved I would be most appreciative if they could cut out the vent for me. Naturally I will pay the cost.
Thanks

Ed, I know alot of members are seeing the final days of their gas tanks. Does any member have the resourse or knowledge to reproduce the stepdown gas tanks? A couple of years ago a company in Mn. began selling Cadillac tanks from the 50s and 60s. I bought one for $370. Very good quality. With over 500k stepdown cars produced and a survival rate of 1-2%, there shold be a market for a repop. Any ideas?

I'm thowing out the tank out of my '49. Not sure what the vent looks like...if you take a picture and post it, I can let you know if the one on my tank is any good. I'm planning on "re-configuring" things back there, so don't need the old one.
Thanks,

Thanks for the offer. I can't get a picture without removing the tank and the car is stored for the winter. However it should be easy to recognize. It is located on top of the tank, above where the filler pipe enters the tank. It is connected to the short hose that runs up to a port in the filler pipe. It is a round fitting about a half inch high with a hose connection pointing toward the side of the tank. Regardless of condition, I'd sure like to get it. Please just cut the sheet metal around it. Don't bother trying to remove it from the sheet metal because it may be welded in or rusted tight.

Let me know how much I owe you for your trouble.

Yes, that's it. A good picture. Thanks a lot for posting it.

Sorry it's taking me a while to reply.
I'll look for that on my tank...maybe I'll post a picture in case the condition is too poor to bother with it...

Lee,
No problem on the time. Spring won't be in New Hampshire for a while.
Thanks

Hi Ed,
Here's a couple pictures of mine.... I scribed a line 2" from the vent. Is 2 inches enough....I could send the whole tank if you want to pay for shipping
I can cut it wherever you want me to....just let me know. Despite the crusty look, I think it's pretty solid...most of what you see is on the surface....

Lee,
The black line on the picture is more than enough. About 4 or 5 inches square will be plenty. What ever will fit in a convenient mailing container would be fine.
Thanks again.

Hi Ed,
Sliced it out (including the brace to the filler pipe). I'll try to get it in the mail this afternoon.
Don't worry about any payment....unless you can't sleep at night - then you can send a check for the shipping
I'd like to see some pics on how you re-braze this to your tank.
Thanks,
Lee
UPDATE: Mailed it!This Hudson project is starting to scare the crud out of me!!! -
Lee,
That's good news. I will look forward to getting it and will keep you informed about progress
