262 and 7x exhaust
-
Am contemplating starting on the engine in my super wasp and have the option of rebuilding the original (head gasket blew and car was stored since the late 60"s with water in #6 cylinder so it will have to be sleeved) or going with a 308 I have on hand. How does the performance stuff like the 7x exhaust manifold (Empire is going to build some with the adaptor) or headers work on the 262? I have one of the R&C heads made by Empire and Ray told me he is going to produce the 7X exhaust manifold.
There are still a group of guys that have pre-purchased heads that have not received them as of today. So
Randy, did you ever dyno that head? -
What I can tell you is that a tubular exhaust header will really wake up a 262 or 308. I felt a bigger difference in power after adding a header to my 262 than I did going from a 262 to a 308. All you need to do is look at the stock stepdown exhaust manifold to see why. The downside to adding a header is a lack of access to the tappets for adjustment. You can remove the covers and adjust your tappets pretty readily with the stock manifold bolted in place, especially if you remove the right front wheel and inner fender panel. No such luck with a header... it requires removal of the intake and exhaust for adjustment, with replacement of the manifold to block gasket highly recommended.Workin Stiff
