54 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Tires
-
Hi, new to the forum here. Just bought a 54 Lincoln Cosmopolitan a month ago. I need to know if I can put radial tires on it? Thanks!
-
Yes you can is the simple answer. One thing you need to watch is the rim width. Many of the newer tires will need rims that have a specific width, so be sure that the dealer that you use knows that. Also I would be sure that if you are using the original rims that they clean them thoroughly with a wire wheel on a drill to be sure the surface is clean.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. You found it interesting, so make it more interesting with your views. -
The OTHER thing to watch is tire diameter. Direct interchange radial tires will give you proper rim width but have a much lower sidewall aspect ratio. Way too many owners purchase radials that look tiny on the car because of inadequate diameter. Smaller diameters will ride harder, give less gas mileage, and throw off speedometer calibration. Use a smart tire technician when ordering and discuss both rim width AND diameter with him.
