Odd trailer

:) I want to ask about an odd trailer from my chidhood to see if anyone has ever seen one like it. In the late forties my great uncle closed his medical practice in NYC and moved up to New Hampshire. He brought his things in a trailer which had two curving arms on the front which apparently attached to the bumper brackets of his car, a pre-war Packard. The body of the trailer was a box, the lower half of metal and the upper half wood. The thing that made this unusual was that there was only one wheel on the trailer, a large caster with a pneumatic tire on a wheel of about ten inches diameter. So, when this was pulled behind the car, it swung out to the side when the car turned. I can only imagine driving any distance with that rig would have been scarry. I was an infant when this took place but until the late seventies that trailer sat in a corner of the barn at our house. When my mother cleaned everything out to sell the house, the trailer left but I don't know to where. Probably scrapped.

Has anyone ever seen such a trailer or heard of one like that?

Yes I have seen such trailers. Brings back memories. My uncle had one. The two arms did attach to rear bumper. Once in awhile one shows up at swap meets.

    Have a great day.

Lee and Terraplane33, thanks for your replies. 33, that one in your picture is on the idea but smaller than the one we had in the barn. I just can't imagine driving in traffic with something like that hanging out the back. But then, when my great-uncle came up this way the traffic was much less than now.
