Wanted, set of stepdown rims

My father is using my original 15" wheels on his '39 super six coupe and I'd like to get another set to put some bias WWW tires on for my '53
can anyone help out? -
check the hokey board,there was a couple guys on the west coast selling/parting out some step downs,Have you kissed a PIT BULL lately?

Sure, what do you have to get out of them? And do the have all the clips for the caps, all the ones I have found are missing the hub cap retainers.
I'm in northern MD looks like you are a little over an hour from me, might be a Hudson road trip! -
Did you consider old Chrysler rims? They are very similar to Hudson rims. They have the extra holes for the dowel and Hub cap clips.This is the route I went since I stumbled onto a mountain of these rims .I haven't tested Hubcap fitment as of yet. I can post photos if you like

49 to 53 Mopar rims. I have a thread on here called 'Greetings and Hudson Rims' that addresses this very issue. There are some differences in the Dodge wheels. The earlier ones have an oval stem hole for a tube and the later ones have a large round hole, also for a tube. You can get stems to fit these but just be aware.
This is a MOPAR rim, round stem hole. I was also told that the MOPAR rims are stronger than the Hudson rims and that Hudson rims can crack if a radial is used.

The mopar rims are a good fit and on my Salt Flats Racing car I used the smaller dog dish hubcaps. The fit is good but it takes some "futzing" to get the hubcaps on. I did some anylitical testing on the strength and you will notice on the Mopar rins that there is a small recess on the first flat wall on the rim. This little stamping on the rims increases the strength (when using SBR tires) by just over 60 percent. You may never need this but in the case where I was expecting to drive over 120 mph it was very much a comfort. I recommend these wheels.Brownie -

i asked this question awhile back,'cause i heard Hudson rim will crack W/SBR tires too,thanks for posting the above info!Have you kissed a PIT BULL lately?

If you do a search "Stepdown rims" on the Forum above you will see 12 differnt discussions on this subject. As with all good discussions you will fine those who say--been running original rims for years with no problems; and others that will recommend changing to the Mopar rims. I took an original rim and a Mopar rim and did several tests checking strength, hardness, and deflection under stress. If you consider that the statistics do not lie--you will check your local yard and pick up a set of Mopar rims.
By the way, Hudson produced a rim for the stepdown that was about 1/5 inch wider. This rim is also stronger. But, they are quite hard to find.

Well,I guess since mine don't have the bumps adjacent to the lug holes that they are Hudson.The PO of my 49 must have had these made and to his credit must have done his homework to fit 235/75R15 on the stepdown and not rub(although it is REALLY tight getting them on or off the rear axle...) The PO had new 15x6 rims installed on what I'm guessing are Hudson centers. No problems here,just another option albeit probably not the cheapest way to go.

Can someone verify that these are the right mopar wheels? They don't seem to have the extra bumps in the center. Could they be Hudson?

Can you get a hold of any more, I am having a hard time finding any here on the east-coast that are not totally rotted. -
Those ones on eBay look like 16" truck rims. The offset looks weird.I don't think they'll work well.Are you in a big rush? The yard where these are is about a half hour out of the city. I was planning on going out next week some time. I can see what there is.The prices are good, I got my rims for $20 a piece.When I blasted them they were pitted, but they hold air.

Or if you plan on running Biased ply tires,( I think you said you were) I could round up 4 of my Hudson rims and send them your way.

5" I have G-78/15s (somewhere around a 215/75r15) on them. I'm in Canada. Alberta.

So, This is what I came up with.
Notice how the last one has a different profile on the disc of the rim. whereas the rest have an umbroken curve.
There are a couple that don't have Hubcap clips. Now I'm not a Hubcap guy, so I'm not concerned about them. If you want rims with the clips in tact I can send you the ones I already have blasted and painted.

I only need 2 with good clips, my car is low enough that you can't see the rear ones, any idea what the shipping would be to zip
21050. I have used greyhound to ship odd stuff, no sure if that is an option for you. -
