I owned this car in the late '80's for approx 10 years. It is rare (being the Touring Sedan with the small quarter windows) and was a VERY orginal car other than a high quality lacquer re-paint done the 70's and a very nice re-chrome. Interior was original except for the front rubber floor mat that I replaced. I had a door pocket remade using original fabric (from another '31 sedan seatback material) otheriwse it was 100% as it left the factory. I also refinished the wood wheels in the mid 90's with many coats of marine poly.

I did notice from the pics that someone added an electric fuel pump (UGH!!!... I had rebuilt the vacume tank and it worked perfect).

If anyone is serious, private me and I can tell you what I know about this car (up until I sold it in July 1998).

I bought that car from Bernie Tracey, of Rye, NH, in 1972. It was all black then and the vacuum pump didn't work. I got that back together and used it for several years, the farthest I went was to Wolfboro, NH to a meet hosted by Mal Fuller. Alex, do you remember meeting me outside town and directing me to Mal's place? In 1977, I sold it to the man in Merrimack, NH from whom Jim later bought it. I sold it to buy a 1923 Hudson seven passenger sedan. That Essex was a great car. Oh, yes, the wheels were black originally but the paint was flaking, and Bernie showed me some original literature which indicated the wheels could have been plain wood, so I refinished them. By the time Jim got the car, they needed refinishing.

It is good to see the car has been well kept. I hope it finds a good home. Also, that Essex was originally from Maine. A man in Biddeford had it and sold it to Bernie sometime in the sixties.
