My 39 Hudson Six - After 6 yrs Just gonna drive it
-
I purchased this car in October 2004,with the intentions to street rod it. I thought maybe a few years it would be done and on the road. Things did not go as planned, life and kids had taken priority and I just did a little bit to it now and then over the past 6 years. Now here in November of 2010, I am back on the project in full force and hope to have it on the road by spring 2011. In my 6 years of slow but steady progress,I have totally boxed in the frame, installed a beefy ford 9 inch rear end, a mustang II front end,car is sitting on Air Ride Technologies air ride all around with Wilwood brakes. I totally rebuilt a Ford 351W engine and a Ford AOD transmission, thus the name 39fudson with all the Ford parts, have my wife to thank for the name. I custom made a new firewall, floor pans and tail pan, put in a recessed licence plate and 3rd brake light below the rear windows, filled in the dash holes and glove box and moved the lines of the dash, some other little body mods here and there. I have also custom built a 25 Gallon Stainless steel gas tank. To get this car back on the road for now I am going for the barn find look on the exterior(Patina)except 95% of this patina will be real. Originally gun metal blue in color someone had brush painted over it with black paint. I am going to try to match all new metal to look like the rest of the body, use the old door handles, pitted and rusty gas cap, original tail lights. I have the center grill but am going to have to custom make some side grills. Car will have no stainless trim or bumpers,I sold those on ebay long ago, and side mirrors are a must for safety issues. The inside will be new and somewhat nice with suede and leather interior, a chrome ididit steering colum with shift on the column that matches the rims along with Vintage A/C. It wont sit anymore, I am ready to drive it! In full force, ready set go - wish me luck!!!

Good luck and hoping that things work so you will have it on the road next year. Does your car have the Country Club dash like my 39 roadster above? (by the way, the clock on the das is from an oldsmobile--it gets lost soon...)

Pictures, pictures. Where are the pictures?
-
I am trying to add pics but not having any luck
-
FYI
I agree with your thinking... Its taken me about 4 yrs to restore mine and at some point even though not perfect or complete, I elect to just drive it at that point....
Regarding attaching pictures,
They must be reduced to less 97kb using your Photo Shop Programor wont load. Suggest save picture on your desktop. Next, go down below this page to ADD FILE Window cllcking on the Add File Box, then Click browse to your Desktop picture, then Double Click Picture or say OK. After a few trys you will be fine. -

Finally after such a long adventure, got the Hudson on the road a few weeks ago. Although a long way from being done, but is drivable, plated and insured.I certainly am having fun with it. Guys scratching their heads trying to figure out what it is. No luck finding any side grills but I do have the side panels that look like the rest of the cars finish, I just choose to keep them off sometimes.100E2241_2011-08-12.JPG800 x 600 - 57K

This is the original 39 Frame the car is sitting on. I boxed it in and put on a Mustang II Front end, Beefy Ford 9 in rear. Air ride, Wilwood brakes all around.Ford 351W with AOD Transmisison. I custom made a 25 gal stainless steel gas tank. Also the dash and outer firewall are painted the same color as frame. All new metal has been painted to match the barn find patina look. Will be installing stainless steel screen for side grills for now.

Your car looks really good, take some pics inside and under the hood and trunk lid. The first pic of the body, I thought good job, then I saw the frame and motor, what a thing of beauty, really nice. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed seeing your work. Bob P

Dash - Filled in all holes/glovebox with new metal and moved the lines of the dash. A polished gauge cluster that fits a 1934 Ford went in it. Also seen are my custom made floor pans.100_1720.JPG640 x 480 - 58K
-
Firewall - Filled in all holes and moved contour for a cleaner look.100_1707.JPG640 x 480 - 65K

Inside of car - Lots to do still, will put in better insulation, carpet, door panels headliner and making a custom center console for air ride controls and Vintage AC controls.100_2143.JPG640 x 480 - 77K

Congratulations on getting it on the road!
Like Bob, when I saw the frame pic thought "WOW"!
The dash looks great also.
Keep the pictures coming.

As with Bob & Kevin, "WOW!" seems to fit best...
If you have any detailed pictures of the frame, I would be interested in the modifications you've done to it. I am going to try to squeeze a 232 into my '39 Model 90 - it will be like putting 5 lbs of potatoes into a 2 lb bag...
I know the forum restricts & resizes photos - You can email the photos to me directly XXXrick_clark@yahoo.com (take off the XXX, it is to prevent spambots).
I've got to go back an re-read this thread - What gearing do you have with the Ford 9" rearend? What did it come out of? -
That looks great! Nice car.
Keep the pictures coming.

Wow, the car looks great. I wish I could get some of that knid of work done on my 1938. I put a 5.3 LS1 motor in mine and I'm trying to get the floor pan redone. Tyring to figure out the brake pedal mounting. Do you have any pictures of the interior work yet? Keep up the great work and keep posting pictures it keeps us all motavated.

I feel inspried to get out to garage and tinker. Great looking ride love the natural pitina look myself, and and detailed under side just sets it off even more. Thanks for sharing pics
-
I have a set of those side grills for '39-112, I am in Australia.
-
Hey Arkie....if you don't have anything nice to say then keep it to yourself.
Great job Fudson....keep up the good work! I enjoy seeing the progress on your '39.
LeeThis Hudson project is starting to scare the crud out of me!!! -
I'm sorry, but a thread like this needs to be moved to hot rods.Arkie

Hi Guys - Lets all be nice, ok? Like any other medium where the written word is used as a primary means of communication, it is very easy to offend one another in this type of format.
ArkieJazz, please look just to the right of the thread for this topic's subject (also shown at the top of this thread), adjacent to the 'Star' ('Bookmark' icon) . See 'Street Rods'? This thread is actually in the correct area.
It is the 'new format' of the Forum that is causing a bit of confusion. Clicking on the 'Discussions' button will take you to the general area and show you every thread, regardless of the area it has been posted-in.
If you want to only see "Hudson", go all the way to the right and click on 'Hudson'. It will take you to the Hudson area, where you should only see topics that have been posted to that area. -
Thans Rick....I say we vote Arkie off the island....at leat the "street rod Island" :-) ...just kidding!
Arkie...no hard feelings....you have some awesome Hudsons....but not all of us have the resources to go "full-on" restoration. So we have fun with what we can get past our wives :-)
