Need some assistance... what color was the carpet in a 52 Hornet? The car had the brown / gold striped seat material. I need to order a carpet kit so need to select the color. Car will have the original type seat material. Thanks for your input!

If you would have had a blue interior I could have helped answer your question

I hope someone with first hand knowledge will step in here..Hopefiully set the record straight. But from my experience The original 48-51 cars I have had the pleasure to work on, had rubber matting..... in the front anyway. Maybe I only got to see the Supers and Pacemakers ?? Carpet is the choice of restorers though. Much more quiet.

The 52 Group Parts Manual lists 3 different colors for carpets set. These colors are Gray, Brown and Red. Each of the colors has two different part numbers listed. There is a note that BROWN was not available in the CvBro. So your color selection for a coupe is gray, brown or red. When looking at the notes for the added trim ... i.e. close out card edge color above the carpet and the side panels at each end under the dash; states there was an option for tan or brown cloth interiors and one for red or maroon interiors as well as a second option used with gray cloth trim and gray or blue spruce leather trim.

The manual introduction lists the types of upholstery available. Under cloth I found one that matches your description:

Brown and tan striped cord, yellow pin stripe.

Also note this manual contains a page of ordering instructions. These instructions state replacement interior components are based on the original serial number of the car and if number is not properly recorded on the order the dealer would most likely receive incorrect parts which were not returnable. Another note, I have not seen before, Hudson states clearly the interior fabric is NOT an exact match from car to car due to inconsistencies in manufacture. So, they advise the dealer that interior repair fabric MAY NOT MATCH the fabric installed at the factory.

Guessing ... the factory would be recommending Brown carpet for your interior, but the parts book does not directly answer your question.

    Dave,

According the the 48-54 parts manual and several individual year parts manuals, the rear carpet was available 1948 through 1954. The same manuals indicate the front floor of the 48-50 cars would have used a rubber mat. The convertible would be the exception as it was available with mat or carpet. The manual shows availablity of Floor mats front or rear and carpet, front or rear starting in 1951.

Great information. Do you know if the carpet was cut pile or loop?

My 49 C8 has original carpet in the rear and I got rid of the front mat and the
thick padding. The rear carpet along with the carpet on the toe rest is loop style.
At this point a few less loops every time I vacuum...

The original material in my 1952 Hornet sedan is as you describe. It had the original(but ratty)carpet front and back and it was brown. I do not think red would look good with your interior and I think grey was for the blue cars--but, that is only my opinion...

My 52 coupe {Hornet} has the brown interior, the carpet is brown cut pile..There was some replacement carpet avaliable at one time from Bill Hirsh, that was very close. I believe he called it "hogshair"

The only factory original carpet material I ever saw in any Hudson of any year was hog's hair. It was in the rear of most models and in the front of only high end models. And in every instance I remember it was brown hog's hair including a burgundy '51 Hornet convert with burgundy leather.

The original material is a brown hog's hair. I replaced the carpet in our 52 Hornet with some that I ordered from Bob Rosol and it looks exactly like the original. I don't have his phone number at hand, but if you look at the club roster you will be able to get in contact with Bob.

What tone brown is "Hogs Hair"? Light, Med or Dark brown?

Dark brown matched the original in our 52. I don't know what other shades Bob offers.
