Floor dimmer switch
-
Sometimes, when I hit the floor dimmer, the headlights dim. Sometimes they go out completely.
Since they're connected to relays, the problem may lie there. I'll dig into it soon. But -- should I find that the dimmer switch is the problem -- is there any way to fix these things? The switch was NOS and not that old. If I can get inside and shine up the contacts, or lube the "clicker", maybe that's all that's necessary. If not, I guess I'd better buy a spare right now.
Anyone ever successfully rescued a bad dimmer switch? -
Jon, see if there's a hole or somewhere you can shoot some WD40 or something similar into the switch and work it several times. That may do it. Also take the covers off the relay(s) and run some 220 grit sandpaper thru the contacts, they may be making a high resistance contact and give you dim lights. After you go thru wit the sandpaber run some plain paper thru to dislodge any grains etc, a business card works well for this.
