1953 ENGINE PAINT
-
THE GOLD PAINT FOR THE 53 ENGINE WAS LISTED ONCE BEFORE AS DUPLICOLOR- UNIVERSAL GOLD, DE1604, I BELIEVE. IS THIS CORRECT, AND WHAT TEMPERTURE IS IT SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD TO? AND ALSO WHAT DO YOU USE ON THE MANIFOLD?
-
I've used this stuff on the factory exhaust manifold. Works pretty good.

Intake manifold should be the same paint as the block. The factory painted the whole assembly gold (or silver on older engines, red on newer) as a unit. The paint on the exhaust manifold was the first to burn off, so the "correct" finish there would be burned off gold. This Eastwood stuff looks better and provides some protection to boot.Workin Stiff -
The Duplicolor engine paints are good for 500 F, and their Universal Gold is a really good match to the original engine color. I don't know of a gold hi-temp paint. My infrared thermometer reads substantially less than 500 on the exhaust manifold with engine warmed up, but it's probably above that when running down the road at highway speeds.

THANKS FOR THE ANSWERS. THATS WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW, AND HUDSON GRANDPA, THAT ENGINE LOOKS JUST LIKE I WANT MINE TO LOOK. DOUG

Duplicolor works great. If you can't find the Universal Gold, Oldsmobile Gold is almost an exact match (high temp paint, as well.)

Actually I believe the exhaust was as cast. Why spend time and money on paint that is going to burn off anyway. Here is a Pic of My 54 Hornet engine. Of course Your Engine would be Gold..Just My 2 cents worth. I used VHT engine paint on mine.
