I am rebuilding the suspension on my 37 Model 77. I have had the springs re-arched and the kingpins redone along with making my own busings for the torsion arms. My question is the the ball on the steering gear arm the one that comes off the steering box is no longer a ball. In fact it is more like an ellipse with one side the front side of the ball significantly worn. Is this and issue? Since the drag link is spring loaded at both ends does this matter. The wear seems to be from lack of lubrication on one side of the ball. (which is kind of strange)

A thought just occured to me that maybe the wear on the front of the ball could be caused by the front end being out of alignment. To the left I would speculate, causing constant pressure on that end of the ball. I did not notice any significant pull or push on the steering wheel one direction or the other. Any thoughts? I would like to correct the problem while everything is apart.

On Model A's and I imagine other vehicles, we purchase new balls and remove the old ones, drill a hole for the new ball's leg and insert and weld it on, has to be a good penatrating weld and finish the weld by grinding. You can order new balls from a Model A distributor such as Mike's Afordable, google to find. Good luck, Bob P
