Seasons Joy and Thanksgiving

    The holiday season is approaching and, commercialisim aside, it is, and should be, a time to reflect and give thanks for what we have, no matter how much, or how little. It is a time to count our blessings and appreciate our families.

    I'm not so lucky, with family, as most of you. I left my family in New England. Oh, I love and miss my "kids" (who are now grown up and on their own, more or less) and I am going miss not seeing my grand-kids and great-grandkids over the holiday, but that's the way life is sometimes.

    But I have another family to give thanks to - I won't mention names here. If they read this they will know who they are. And that is my Hudson family. We all know deep down this Hudson thing is as much about family as Hudson cars. But what is it that makes it family;

    It's the lady that came up to me when I was leaving New England for Memphis after my marriage fell apart and told me "Just remember, Alex - you always have your Hudson family!!";

    It's the club members who, even if they haven't met me, trust me with their literature collections so I can scan the material and put it on line;

    It's the club member who sent me money, unasked, because he wanted to help with expenses in my projects;

    It's the Hudson family who has invited me to Thanksgiving dinner and have become my "adopted" family - an anchor that I probably needed, but didn't realize it;

    It's the many friends I have made over the 40+ years I've been an HET member who come up for a howdy and a shake when we cross paths at a national or local meets;

    It's the people who trust that I know what I'm talking about when I try to the best of my ability to answer their questions. As I say, I really don't know that much about Hudsons - but I know where to find the material and answer;

    It's, with pride in HET, that I sign my emails, and letter, Hudsonly.

    It's all the above, and much, much more.

    Yes, this is my Hudson family - we are one and united in our love of family and Hudson cars. I know that HET is one of the best car clubs going - it's been that way since Merritt gave us this gift over 50 years ago.

    So, as you sit down for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner this year give Thanks for your family's - both.

    Happy Holidays.

    Hudsonly,
    Alex Burr

    Very nicely put, Alex.

    Everybody's circumstances are a little different, and we take our "family" as we find it. Sometimes unity of interests trumps other factors, and there's nothing wrong with that.

    Best wishes to you and everyone for the holiday season.

    Mike

    I would have to second everything Alex said, AND add that in July 2009 I was sent home to die because the Drs. could not do anything else for me. I was flat on my back for 5 weeks and can tell you that there are exactly 66 ceiling tiles in my living room. I prayed that I could hold on until the Pigeon Forge meet and I did, now I have survived to make a second PF meet. Part of this was due to my love of the People in the Mid-South and Smoky Mountain Heartland Chapters, and all the other friends that attend. But MOST OF ALL, I thank GOD for his healing powers. I'm not 100% and may never be but I have my Natural family, my Hudson family, My Church Family and My GOD to be thankful for.
    May every one of you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Please be careful over the Holidays.

    Every now and then we start up one of these posts that rips at my heart strings. This is one of those and I am glad that we do this every now and then. I have a lot to be thankful for and I just wanted to post this photo of my oldest grandson and I with the Gingerbread house we built yesterday. Being a control nut, it is hard for me to step aside and let someone else do something. This was one of those projects where I had to keep telling myself that it is best to let my grandson do the work. It is now one of my favorite five hour projects. If you wonder if we are having a good time--check out the smiles... As the title of a show often seen this time of the year goes: "It's a wonderful life."

    I have many things to be thankful for. Many were mentioned on previous posts and many more will pass through my thoughs after I hit "submit." But, let me say Thank You to all I have met this past year and the fun times we have had...
