$125,000 for a Hornet sedan?

    The car's only $25,000 - the swamp cooler, a very, very rare accessory is $100,000!!!!!! :silly:

    Hope he likes that car - I really think he's going to own it for a while.

    My first impression is to pick out all the things that are wrong with this car (and there are a bunch--what is with all that crap on the dash?) but I would like to think that I am better than that (I'm not!). With that said, I will get on one of his cards in his trunk. He shows the top speed of the car as 150mph. That is a misnomer. In 1952 a sedan much like this was raced at the Bonneville Salt Flats and set a record of 121 mph on a double run. nuff said...... One more cheap shot... Fair market value for this car is around #18,000.

    In addition to the swamp cooler, you get a CB radio, 150 mph top speed and $50,000 in buyer protection. What could go wrong? :P

    I love these goof's that call a car "All Original". Looking at the photo
    of the motor compartment show's it clearly ain't.
    8 -volt battery
    Polished or chrome head
    Chrome air cleaners
    Braided wire coverd radiator hose with temp, sensor
    Red painted radiator
    Some odd red voltage regulator

    Far cry from an All Original car ! !

    Other than the spark plug wires and coil, is there anyything under the hood that is the correct (or original anyway) color or finish?

    You are Right,It would be easier to say what was correct on the car.

    I understood your point and was hoping you'd elaborate.

    Is there anything under the hood that is the correct (original) color or finish?

    I'm no expert but I'm learning and it all looks wrong to me.

    Carborator, exhaust manifold and windshield bottle washer are about the only things that I can see that are correct. Just one or two other points, I am not sure I have seen Twin H with the 145 Head? Could be wrong with that one. I did notice that he is not using copper tubing in his gas line on his Twin H set up. Got to give him a point for that?

    This person has zero transactions on EBay so I am sure this is hoax post.

    Really burns me as I was about to post my $900,000 54 sedan on there and this has now sullied the water. I do not have a swamp cooler on the window I have a complete home AC unit. Beats this for sure.

    "JUST PLAIN NUTS!" This Hornet's located in Crystal Lake, IL which is very close to where I live in Palatine. I'm guessing that the "Twin H" intake manifold is not painted gold, but is "solid gold" which explains the high starting bid. Anyway, maybe I'll drive over and check this one out and also hand the owner a few recent issues of the WTN to perhaps help set him straight on a more realistic price.

    The price aside, "all original, show quality" is an oxymoron. And what part of that interior is original? The seat fabric surely isn't.

    I was just on E-bay and went back to look at it again.
    oddly enough it seems to have been removed. Think he got
    a few interesting comments on his ad?
    I was going back to look at the horn .Earlier some one had ask him aquestion
    about the horn being in the wrong place.
    The guy told him it was'nt a horn it was a swamp cooler!

    My guess is his Granfather died and he's selling all his stuff. Wanting to make a foutune on everything and going from memory of what Gramps told him about stuff.

    A: I believe that you are referring to the swamp cooler.

    To my untrained eye, it looks like he has two original style passenger side horns in addition to the aftermarket chrome horns.

    We can thank Barrett-Jackson for all the foolish prices. People lose their minds after they've watched all the hoopla, bombastic bellowing :sick: , and posturing, he'd probably just seen a Shelby GT go for $300,000 and thought "oh boy, I can easily get $125,000 for pop's classic". Well now it's at $65,000. We all know what he will have to do to sell it.

    All kidding aside, it looks like it would be a pretty good driver with all the gadgets, and is in pretty good shape overall. Looks stock from 20 feet. And there are certain guys who like lots of bling- the chromed air cleaners would be a plus for some. So I'm thinking high teens or maybe 20K.

    correct would be lucky to bring him $20,000.
    After all it's "Just a Four Door Sedan ". If it were a convertible
    that would be different. Guys cut these up to fix rusty coupes and rag top's.

    Yes it was a camper an old guy was building but he died before finnishing. I just could'nt leave it sit in the scap yard where I first found it. You could make it back into a 49 Commadore or on into a camper. I am not sure yet what I will do. I have thought about finishing it to haul parts to our swap meets. Tow it maybe behind my 47 Pick-up.

    Looks like he's down to $65,000 now. Still has very little discription of the features . Say's its got 12 volt accessories but sure looks like 8-volt battery
    to em. I noticed the overdrive knob under the dash a big plus he never mention's.
    The ad has had over 1000 views so far. He seem's to be getting a little testy.
    The ad has a phone # and say only GOOD HOMES NEED CALL. Think he got a few ears full ? No . . . I did not call him,

    That KalaKala ferry sort of reminds me of another crazy idea using a Hudson - Sir Vival. I think this has been on the forum before, but we'll toss it in for now.
    By the way the car is still around - owned by HET member Ed Moore in Mass.

    Cool Old Ship, very art-deco. We have one quite simmilar in St.louis ,SS Admiral.
    Its retired now and is a floating casino. We all grew up riding it on the Mississippi . It was built in the 30's on the hull of an older ship .

    I for one always enjoy these eBay diversions. Watching them list it 500 times before coming down to a reasonable price. Or never. I have seen cars relisted 10 times or more with the same price or higher and they never sell and the sellers never learn.

    I am watching a guy who is asking 75K for a 1971 Buick Riviera. Guy has to be kidding I past up a pristine one for 8K because I have run out of hiding places for all my cars.

    Still it gives me a hearty laugh and thats a good thing.

    The way I see it you only need to list it twice. The first time with a high reserve (this is the "wish" part of the process.) The second listing should have a reserve about $1,000 below what the first process high bid.

    Or, just list it without a reserve and start the bidding at "o". Where is the spirit of reality these days
