Hello everyone, i'm familiar with many other forums but new to this "era" of forums.

I bought a car the other day that has been in my family for many years, and i have no intentions on keeping it. The car is a red 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT with the 390ci motor and auto trans. The car also has a 9" rear end with a posi unit. The car is very original, but i don't believe the motor or the trans are vin matching parts. The motor runs very well, starts and idles great. The trans is a C6, and shift perfect.

My Grandpa had bought the car back in the late 70's, and then sold it to my uncle in the late 80's. My uncle painted the car, put headers on it, electric fan, a few aftermarket gauges, and that's about it. My uncle was looking to just get rid of it, so i bought it with the intentions of re-selling as i have to many projects of my own. The problem is, I have no idea what the car is actually worth

I'm not looking to make a killing of the car, and i don't want to ask a price that's gonna let it sit in my garage for the next two years until the right buyer comes along. I want to sell the car at a fair price for myself, and the potential buyer. The car is not perfect by anymeans, but is very nice. The rear bumper will need to be re-chromed. The front drivers fender is rotting at the bottom, and the early 90's paint job isn't holding it's shine anymore. The tires will need replaced, and their is surface rust on most of the parts under the car. But everything is nice on the interior, and the carpet was replaced in the late 90's. Floor pans are solid, and so is the trunk. The door open and shut very nice, and the glass is all perfect as is most of the chrome. So anybody have a ballpark price.....the car is for sale! Take a look at some of the pictures and let me know, thanks guys and great forum you have here!!!

Sounds like a high dollar fixer upper. Headers and traction bars say I have been abused. Don't know how much profit you want to make. For a fast turn around try putting a value on the windshield $500 dollars or more than you paid for it, then negotiate. That's free money.

The Old Cars Report Price Guide, the leading pricing resource for old cars, has a rating from 1 - 6. Because of the rust, chrome, body/paint and unseen issues my guess is its value is in the 5 catagory, $2160. Catagory 4 value, no rust issues, is $3600. This are some ball park figures. Someone else may have anothers. Pictures of cars alway look much better than seeing the car in person.

    Good luck, Lee

Hey thanks for the reply, I know since the late 70's the car has never been abused, or even to a dragstrip. My uncle put those traction bars on, and i'm not really sure why he did. I've never seen him drive over 40 mph! The car probably has a total of maybe 4k miles since the late 70's. Thanks again for the info!
