On the hunt for collectors value
-
Hello, I'm here looking for a friend to find the collectors value of his 1976 Pontiac Grand Lemans. It's the 2 door sport coupe, has a 350 engine, air conditioning, and a luxury package.
I know he's in the process of restoring it, and I don't know if he could get pictures or not.
I looked it up on a pricing site and found that it was worth $6,075 retail value, however he's looking to price it at what it would be worth to other collectors. If anyone could give me an estimate without pictures I'd really appreciate it. If not I can try to get pictures for you. -
I'd give you an answer but there seems to be a rash of people here that do not like to hear the truth about getting a price of a vehicle.
Look in the other places that sell these cars and publications such as Hemmings or Auto Trader and see if you can get an idea as to what it may sell for.
Ron
I'm just tired of fighting with these one time posters over simple crap. -
I'm hunting for a coworker so it's no big deal really he's just a buddy, and if you happen to know so I can get this over with I'd appreciate any information, regardless if you like the car, or the truth, or if it's worth nothing. I don't really care if it's "bad" or not honestly, it doesn't seem fair to judge somebody based on the actions of other people or their post count although I'm sorry that you seem to have had a bad experience with new comers. He Isn't looking to sell it at this point but more just wanted to know what he had in his hands. I will take a look at those publications though!
If anyone could help me out I'd really be grateful I'm tired of digging around in the dark and not finding much of anything. And by the way I can see why there are a lot of people with one post counts if that's the kind of warm welcome they get here  -
Here's one on Ebay for $4500. According to the photo and description, it's practically new! Your friend could buy this and (if his value guide is correct) turn around and sell it for $6075 for a quick profit without having to spend all that time and money restoring his! You might want to watch how this auction ends...that will tell you the true worth of your friend's car on the open market. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320413637469&ih=011&category=6783&_trksid=p4506.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26ps%3D5

The bottom line is that they are only worth what they will sell for. The market is never exact. If you want a good value base post it on ebay for sale at a high price and see what the top bid on your ends up at. You can expect that for that day and that car the price is quite spot on. If you are building cars to sell then you are going to find that it is a tough business to compete in. The top values seem only to go to those top cars that are from top professional builders. Build them and drive them I always say.....Brownie
