Hi. I am new to the forum. But I realized that the 55 Packard, while using a 12V battery, has a POSITIVE ground. Can anyone give me step-by-step info what I must do to switch to Negative ground? I want to install a brand new 8-track under dash for "ambiance."

    Thanks

    Ted

Reverse connections on coil and ammeter, get a 56 generator and regulator, and that should about do it.

Steve, thank you. So are you saying there is no way to save and reconnect the 55 gen and reg? I wish someone would draw a wiring diagram since I am certain that there must be many others who have encountered this dumb move on the part of Packard.

    But if I must...OK. Do I connect the 56 items as GND=negative?

No reason to do that, just reverse the polarity on the regulator and you're good to go on the charging side of things, the rest yes, you have to do, otherwise the ammeter will show a discharge when it's charging, and you'll eventually fry the coil and points with the wrong polarity.
