Updated rear View Mirrors for 1950 Commodore?
-
One of our local members feels that the outside rearview mirrors aren't quite big enough to give her a good view of the rear. She wonders if there might be some mirrors with a wider view, that could somehow be attached in place of the ones on there now.
She has a 1950 Commodore Eight, and I am assuming she has the original-type round mirrors that mounted to the outside of the doors.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably-priced and easily available solution to her problem? Although she has been trying to keep the car looking original, I think her primary concern here is the be able to see what's behind her!

I seem to recall that Bill Albright had some reproduction mirrors that
he was selling?
You might give them a call and see if they are still available -
I have a "53" and the swivel on mine broke,i took it up to "n.p.d. Auto store and they had one that matched, screw holes an everything. Altho i dont know if the mirror part is any larger.

There are a few companies that reproduce the Guide day/night rear view mirrors that were used on cars of the period including Hudson. I bought one last year that is 8.5 inches wide for @$45. The only problem is that the Hudson swivel hole is narrower than the GM hole in the bracket. This is a simple fix, to drill out the Hudson bracket hole a little wider. Company name is Arrowhead Truck Parts www.arrowheadparts.com The mirror is for a 47-53truck #c475310cr.

If these are the normal round outside mirror, what I do with all my cars is go and buy one of those convex mirrors that stick on to the original round one, these are used a lot on trucks, they do take some getting used to but, in my '42 I can see the door handles and a real wide view out into the next lane.
As my car is LHD and driving on the opposite side of the road to you guys,( I have it on the passengers side of the car,) I have no trouble checking when I need to change lanes when driving on my own, no problems at all.
They are real cheap as well. -
