Need some basic help... will a 12 volt horn work on a 6 volt system? Thanks

It will work, but will sound terrible. The vibrating frequency will be wrong, giving off an off-key note. Same with using a 6V horn in a 12V system... the problem I currently have. Some designs can be retuned for the new voltage. I'd like to find someone that retunes them, but I can't imagine the sound proof chamber you'd need to keep from driving your neighbors nuts in the process.

Original horns on my '51 Hornet sound great with 12v (just louder). No adjustment was needed. Been working fine for several years (I did install a 12v horn relay). Most of you know I'm usually a stickler for properly converting everything to 12v, but on the horns, I decided to give them a try. Someone else may have a different experience, but it's worth a try to see how the originals work before going to something else.

Both my '51's are on 12 volt. Ditto what Park said.

It might be (beep beep) rather then "BEEP BEEP"!!!. Doesn't cost anything to try. Let us know how the sound turns out. Lee

Tried it on some other car many years ago- I recall that it sounded like a duck in ill health- and not loud enough for anyone else to hear.

I was going to say moose - but I guess you'd have had to live in New England, or maybe Alaska, to know what that sounds like!!!!

Well, ya could put a resistor in the line. I think JC Whitney might sell them for this purpose.
