Where do I find the dipstick to check tranny fluid on my 53 Starlight?!?! Where do I add fluid if needed? Still looking for a manual in decent shape, and my shop manual doesn't cover this particular detail!

    thanks in advance~!

Bryan, is the car an Automatic ? If so, you should see a black piece of rubber about 4 inches round on the center of transmission tunnel remove the 2 screws and the cover .There's your dip stick. As I recall they use 10 weight oil.

The automatic came out in 1950.It was made by Studebaker-Borg Warner. Its an air cooled transmission, has anti-creep,hill holder and you can push start it if the battery went dead.

That tranny is known at the Detroit Gear or DG 150, 200, 250 series. Very good transmissions but not too many people know how to work on them now.

Don't rev up the engine when in neutral. Here is some info --
