Stupid question, but I'm a newbie...

Where do I find the dipstick to check tranny fluid on my 53 Starlight?!?! Where do I add fluid if needed? Still looking for a manual in decent shape, and my shop manual doesn't cover this particular detail!

Bryan, is the car an Automatic ? If so, you should see a black piece of rubber about 4 inches round on the center of transmission tunnel remove the 2 screws and the cover .There's your dip stick. As I recall they use 10 weight oil.
The automatic came out in 1950.It was made by Studebaker-Borg Warner. Its an air cooled transmission,has anti-creep,hill holder and you can push start it if the battery went dead. -

That tranny is known at the Detroit Gear or DG 150, 200, 250 series. Very good transmissions but not too many people know how to work on them now.
