Old 30's Hudson Race Pictures on E-bay
-
There are a couple of these pics listed on e-bay. I figured someone could download the image for the archives. Niels

Cool! I don't recall ever having seen that photo in the WTN (at least for the past 40 years). Of course it's a '36 model, though it might have been taken in the 1940's. My thought is that it's some sort of factory authorized test. Interesting they'd use a convertible. Most of the fuel economy tests used solid-roof models.

Gilmore Oil Co. was a West Coast petroleum Company that had a string of gas stations. Most "grease monkeys" at the stations were racers and put either Gilmore decals or painted Giulmore on the cars somewhere.
I would wager that the car in the picture is from the Southern California area.
Gilmore also owned or leased a Dirt short track near Hollywood, Ca. I can remember my father attending many midget race meets @ Gilmore Stadium in the 1940's. -
The Gilmore Oil Company also sponsored Roscoe Turner in air racing (Roscoe went on to win the Bendix trophy in 1933 and the Thompson trophy in 1934 (winning air races which was a big deal back then. He also toured with lion cub named "Gilmore" for publicity; complete with a cub-sized parachute, Turner would frequently take "Gilmore" on tour with him.
Another of those colorful people that populated the 1920's and 1930's - you could say the govm't regulated them out of business. LOL
