Trunk Refinishing
-
I recently acquired an original trunk off ebay and it is wood with a covering that appears to be fabric possibly canvas. It pretty intact except the leather straps and keepers need to be replaced. I need to repaint it to get it looking good but what kind of paint would be used? Acrylic, enamel or something else. Anyone refinished one of these?Steve

HI STEVE , your leather straps of course needs to be VERY saturated with a penetrateng dye . I'd use an aniline type . The fabric or leather or what ever it may be covering the box I think I would go with a Paint designed for vinyle BUD

Hi Steve - I think this is what you need:
http://www.kolorbond.co.uk/vinylkote.html
This is their UK website, but I think they are an American company (most are!). I used vinyl paint (not this brand but another) to redo the door cards on my English Ford in 1976 and they are still good, so I don't think there are any problems with durability. Hope this helps, and best wishes - Alan
P.S. And I *love* the trunk! -
YUP, it's available here . put KOLORBOND in your browser and it'll bring up the multitude of sites to wade thru to find the right one. PLastikolor is a name they use here also . Sounds like some really good paint . BUD
