I had drive by visitors who stopped to take pictures and slammed the door with the window down and broke the DS door window in my Pacemaker. Any suggestions on fair glass companies for flat glass? Been awhile since I replaced one, but should be simple.

Sorry to here about your window disaster. Most local auto glass shops will be able to cut you a new window glass from flat auto safety glass using your old one as a template, and pack it into the lower bracket for you. Be sure to replace all the window channel, division bar channel at the vent upright, and sweepers along the lower edge of the window opening while you have it all apart! If you don't, you WILL be replacing this new glass as well,......... much sooner than later. It's not that fun that you will want to do it twice! LOL. Your channels are worn out, which allows the glass to rattle violently when the door is shut hard (which is almost every time on a stepdown), and is the cause of it breaking.

To follow along with Essex4's advice. I'd suggest Victor Zamora for the window channel. He's listed in the vendor section in the back of the WTN. You can't beat the service of someone in the HET club. He's a great guy, and the product he sells is top notch. I'm sure he's not making any money on it. I was able to buy enough for my '49 four-door sedan for about $100.

As long as you're opening up the inside of the door, don't forget to lubricate window winders, door mechanism, etc., and clean dirt and junk out of the bottom of the door so rain will drain out. This might be an opportunity to replace the fabric along the window track as well (I think our own VicTor Z. sells new window channels, right?)

Club coupes were the worst because of the vast expanse of glass. I had a '49 C6ClCp that I broke the drivers side door window. It was half way down and I shut the door a little to hard.

Then I turned around and broke the passenger side window about a week later the same way. :mad:

At least I didn't have to replace the glass - I sold the car, as was, and the next owner had the job.

Thanks for all your help, advice and sympathy. I will tear into it this weekend. I just got off the phone with Vic and will get what I need from him to replace what is needed to avoid this ever happening again. Hate to work on anything that was perfectly good to start, until someone messed it up, and when done, you are back to square one. Although in this case I will be a bit ahead in the sweep and gasket department.
