Hi,

I'm looking for info about a movie that featured a Hudson. A friend's red 1951 Hudson Brougham Convertible, Parade Car was apparently custom built for a movie back in the '50s but the owner doesn't know what movie it was for.

I know it's a long shot, but does anybody have any ideas? Any leads on other places to look would be helpful too. Thanks!

I'm not completely sure, but I beleive you can find this car in the Hostetler Hudson Museum in Shipshewana IN (there couldn't be two alike, could there?)

This is the same car, and the best place to start for any history on this particular auto.

i think there was a article on this car in the WTN i would guess late 80's early 90's. perhaps it has the history that your after

The first time I saw this Hudson was in a museum somewhere near Rapid City in the late 1970's. The next time I came across it was when it sold at an auction in Denver in the WTN.

I'd guess Eldon Hostetler knows what the movie was. Cathy Miller at the museum should be able to get that from him.

Yeah it's from the Hostetler Museum. Ed from the museum asked me to help find out the name of the movie since nobody at the museum has had any luck.

I offered to help, even though I'm not exactly sure where to find it. imcdb.com doesn't have any exact matches, but I suppose new info gets added to that site regularly.

Thanks for the replies and if anyone has other suggestions on where to look, please let me know.

In that case, have you tried a different route? For example, who did Eldon buy it from? Who did they buy it from, etc. Perhaps, tracing the history of the car through previous owners is a possibility.

The website you mentioned, was my other option, but seeing as you all ready searched there, I would say to just keep an eye on it from time to time.

Surely a car as bizarre as this one ( I know, I've seen it) would have someone who could shed some light on it's history . . . perhaps some old time HLWYD folks could help, as well. Oddball cars in movies are usually much easier to track, due to their uniqueness. The Topper car comes to mind, which is still around.

I would send a picture to the Volo car museum. They buy and sell lots of movie cars. They should be well connected.

I went to the IMCDB.org site and clicked on Hudson, then Pacemaker (because I have one). They list a 1933 Pacemaker for one movie. I've never heard of a 1933 Pacemaker. Another mention is for a 1951 Pacemaker but the car shown is a 1954 Hudson. Another mention of a 1950 Pacemaker and no Hudson is shown in the clip, though a thirties car is shown which might be a Hudson.

It appears they are not very accurate.

In 1933 Hudson referred to its regular Hudson sixes and eights as "Pacemakers". This was to differentiate from the Essex Terraplane sixes and eights of that year. So, in this regard at least, IMCDB was correct in its terminology.

Had no problem finding a Hudson convertible at the imcdb site, although it's not the car in question:

This site takes movie car buff inputs...it's not like they scour old movies and TV shows, looking for vehicles. It's only as accurate as the input, like wiki. Although, I'd take the imdcb info over any wiki nonsense, any day!
