Barrett Jackson Auction Results

As of today three of the Hudsons at the auction have sold.
1941 Hudson Pickup $29,700.00
1949 Super Six Police Car $14,300.00
1956 Hudson Rambler $16,500.00
The Hudson SPEEDSTER "GRAPES OF WRATH" has not come up yet. -
In my never to be humble opinion, that is better than top dollar for each of them. I do have an interest in what the "Grapes of Wrath" goes for.... I think it is ugly....Brownie

I think a running, driving stepdown that was a documented police car is a decent price at $14,300. Alot of cool factor for the money.

They ran a 'thing' on the integrity of BJ, in relation to history and documentation - indicating that they would not 'put their customers at risk' with a vehicle of questionable validity...
Then, less than 15 minutes later they mentioned that 'Grapes of Wrath' Hudson! Talk about 'shoveling --it'... -
I was watching BJ last night, seems to me BJ is taking it on the chin for past improprieties(bidding plants) and now the cars that would have fetched a much higher dollar in the past aren't even bringing build costs.
Yes, recession, but the decline in BJ has been ongoing every since the news of the fake bidders got out. Might not be the "worlds greatest car auction" for much longer if the trend continues. -
I too spent most of the night watching the BJ show. I did this with a copy of Old Cars Price Guide in my hand. On the restorations I compared OCPG with the selling price of the car. By-in-large, the cars at BJ were about 15 to 20 percent below what OCPG listed. Special cars, hot rods and name tag cars were impossible to guess at, but all in all I decided that the prices were fair and not really overinflated. There was a very nice "rose" colored single seat Thunderbird that looked great for the camera. Low milage since restoration and the work completed by a name-brand Thunderbird restoration shop. It sold for 16K below OCPG. I thought it well bought. As were a number of other cars. They are a muscle car sale so I expect we will never see a good selection of Hudson products there.....Brownie

Hello Rick,
It looks like the bidders didn't buy into the hype on the supposed "Grapes of Wrath" Hudson. High bid was only $50,000 (still too high, in my opinion).

I don't think it had believable provenance or documentation. It looked more like a George Barris custom.

As for the guy who 'discovered' and restored that vehicle - this is not the first time that questionable lienage has come up on the vehicles he is tied to. IMO, he is a 'con man', hoping that the shady references & provenance will add substantial value to what is being sold...
I hope the buyer of the car investigates it in detail, and then goes back to both BJ's and the previous owner to contest their claims of authenticity. -
local press here hyping what the auction houses have sold as to overall total sold. Russo - Steele getting a lot of bad press due to tent being blown away, damage to cars, etc. Supposedly started their auction this a.m.
In re to "created" cars, the "Grapes of Wrath" Hudson a piker compared to what they're trying to "hype" the supposed Tucker convertible to bring in the R-S auction. Paper says Tucker's daughter says co. ONLY made sedans - should be interesting.
OCW, which I subscribe to, gives prices of all cars in all of these auctions.
Yes, think that might have been a good price for the police car.
I repeat what I've said in a previous post, I consider all these auctions a "circus" thus consider the results accordingly with the old adage "let the buyer beware"!
