she did not buy complete starter just armature

The bendix on a standard drive starter has a main spring going in the opposite direction of the main spring on an automatic starter bendix. They also will not interchange due to the difference in the way they're attached to the armature shaft One shaft uses a pin to secure the bendix and the other uses a key. Which one do you need?

the armature i have uses a half moon key and a set screw.the #on the field casing is mch6204space then8 space then j . the shaft measures 12and three-eighths inches long. does that help any. what is the possibility of adding on to shaft? thanks for any help you can give me 51hudman

I have a starter from my 52 hornet with hydro that I will give away, just too costly to ship. the shroud at the end is broken, so I used it and another one to make a good starter.
