Anti seize vs loctite
-
I am changing the thermostat in my '40 Super 6. One bolt has a flat washer and one has a split washer. Wondering if I should use loctite and flat washers or anti seize and split washers?
-
I would use split washers on both w/ a dab of anti seize.

I would only use a flat washer, with a split one. Unless the threads are messed up, that should be enough. If you feel better using loctite, DON"T USE "RED". That's for a permanent seal. You'd have to heat with a torch to break that bond. I use Permatex on the threads, and on the thermostat housing. I over apply, and trim the excess that oozes out off with an exacto-knife, after it dries. My 2 cents worth.

I use Loctite PST teflon thread sealant on any bolts that thread into water passages, including head bolts. It also serves well as antiseize for later disassembly. It stops coolant seepage past the threads.
I often use a flat washer under the split lock washer for better distribution of the clamping forces, and to prevent the split washer from gouging the cast surface. -
Thanks guys,
Got the loctite PST for the anti seize, new bolts, flat and split washers. As for the Permatex, when I was a kid Permatex came in one or two flavors. Feel like I got a chemistry lesson trying to decide which one to use. Stuck with good ol Form-a-gasket. Anything better? -
