35 Terraplane Head Lamp

Hello All, I need some help disassembling the head lamp assembly on my 35 Terraplane. I'd like to replace the wiring from the dimmer switch forward as it is frayed and dry looking in the engine compartment. I think I've attached a PDF out of the master chassis parts book of the correct assembly. I've removed the lens but am stumped after that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it is anything like my '39, the lens reflector is held in place by three clips. When you 'push in' you feel the resistance from the springs behind the reflector.
The clips that hold the reflector and springs in place should 'pop' loose by applying a light outward prying pressure, applied directly under the reflector where the clips go through it (as if you are trying to pry the reflector out of the headlight bucket).
Being very careful while doing this, I was able to disconnect the lens reflector, then take out the spring and spring retainers. Mine were more than a bit rusty, so I gave them 2-3 doses of penetrating oil over a couple of days before attempting to remove them. They came out fairly easy & without issues, and the parts are in my vibratory tumbler getting a cleaning.
If you have a small pair of pliers, you might try to push inward on the reflector, while using the pliers to grasp the clips and pull them straight out...

hello, which headlamp do you have? the make is stamped in to the base. they used two mfg. in '35 sta-bilite and depress beam. they are very different from each other. tell us what you have and we can help you out. regards, tom

The car is a Special G Model with the Stabilite head lamps. Do you know if the Stabilite and Depress beam lenes are interchangeable? -
the lenses are interchangeable. the convex shape is slightly different, but my car had one stabilte can and one depress beam can and depress lenses in both. to remove the lens on the stabilite the bottom screw is removed on the depress beam you just have to loosen the bottom screw then press the lens back into the headlamp can, tilt lens and remove. to remoe the deflctor just carefully hook fingertips around edges of reflector and pull out the retaining clips are 1 1/4" spring clips and slide out. if they corroded away and a previous owner was involved, no telling what was substituted. i used a modified nylon "T" upholstery clip/plug. i hope this helps. regards, tom

Thanks for the help. The car has been in my wifes family since her great uncle bought it new in 35. He meet an untimely death shortly after that and the car spent about 40 years in a barn. My father in law aquired it in 1971 and upon his death in 2006 I bought it from my mother in law. I think the insulation on the wiring is just dry rotted from sitting all those years.
