Oil Mains Spitfire Flathead 251

I have some oil leaks in my 1949 Chrysler Windsor with a Spitfire Inline six and was wondering if I do find that the leaks are coming from the mains do I have to drop the Crank in order to replace the mains, Or am I able to replace them without tearing everything apart? I have already dropped the oil pan but need to clean everything off so that I can see it and I know that it will take quite a bit of time before I can truly check the mains.

    Thanks.

...not real sure what it is that you are asking...How did you determine that a 'leak' exists at a main bearing? As you know, the main bearing is pressure fed so 'leakage' must occur unless the feed galley is plugged. But, of course, if that happened then the bearing dies...

It is possible to replace bearing shells without removing the crank but if the bearing is shot then it is time for a proper rebuild, not just a box of bandaids.
