Road tripping across the USA
-
Hi
I am a newbie to this forum and am from the UK!
My girlfriend and I are planning a road trip across the USA next year. We will be driving from Boston to San Francisco and then to Miami (zigzagging quite a bit)! We would love to buy a classic muscle car to do the trip in (60's/70's Ford, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac etc.)
Are the any suggestions to firstly; what kind of car should we be looking at? What kind of price range? Is this even feasible, considering an old car driving for 6000 miles or whatever it is? What kind of miles per gallon can we expect?
Our plan is then to sell the car when we arrive in Miami (3/4 months later) so we need something that hopefully will also hold its resale so we don’t lose too much money!
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Johnny,
I would suggest that you save yourself from the headache of ruining your trip with vehicle registration, smog inspections, insurance fees, sales tax, a possible inspection fees and the uncertainty of driving a 30 year old vehicle over 6000 miles of crappy roads. Often through regions devoid of repair facilities and cell phone coverage…all while sucking down $3 a gallon fuel at 12-16 MPG.
Rent a mid-size SUV and have some fun....maybe go to a few car shows.
