'54 Hornet U-joints
-
Driveshaft came out on mountain descent Saturday and I'm trying to determine the correct replacement U-Joints but have seen both PUJ# 369 and PUJ 329 both used on different reference sites, even PUJ# 315. The 329 seems to have longer bearing caps. The old ones on the car are gone. Need help what is correct.

Try these NAPA 2100153 or Precision 369www.hudsonmotorcar.org

When I requested a drive shaft universal joints NAPA 2100153 or Precision 369, they indicated 369s were no longer available and what I got when NAPA 2100153 was special ordered was a PUJ 329. Now I can find no spec. sheet for the 329 but the 369 shows 1.063" diameter and 3.22" over bearings. The 329 with my calipers shows maybe 1.065" and 3.283" and is configured as an "outside lock" whereas the U-joint off the car is supposedly an "inside lock." So a bit confused here.

I believe this is from David Solon's site? Universal joints- 1936-54 Hudson Spicer 5-200X, 5-153-X, or 5-121-X will all fit, used on Chevy `55-62, Ford `49-`60 and `64-`67. Precision 329 ; Wesgo #N-2115-R; Chev. 55-62 #386451, NAPA 2100153
This says Precision 329 not 369 like Ken Cates had on his site...NAPA ordered it from Memphis for me. It looks different than the one that was on the car.
If the '55-62 Chevy is the same, there are some on ebay tight now I could try to pick up if I can just get some confirmation. -
Was on the Hudson chat last night and Jon B confirmed the 320 # from the Hudson manual he sent me a link to. Will know for sure upon installation later this weekend.

Got the Precision 329 U-joint pressed in today but I think it is too stiff. I'm not sure how free it should be to turn, but this seems tight.
