I posted this in the ford section, then saw this and thought I should post here.
I have a 1950 Ford F3 3/4 ton with a Flathead V8 with 90,000 m. It has been siting for 20 years and it has very low compression. Only 30 pounds in all cylinders. Cam shaft timing is ok, I put oil in the cylinder and compression stayed the same.
I cleaned the valves and it is still low. What else could I do? -
You might soak the cylinders (pistons & rings) with Marvel Mystery oil (3-5squirts after removing the spark plugs) for a few weeks to see if it might break the rings free, and re run compression test.
If it improves at all, continue this process until it does not improve the compression readings; then crank it up and make a decision on an overhaul or try to get it to run as is, burning oil. -
With 90,000 miles, 30 lbs. compression it's time for rebuild or replace with newer drive train. Just my thoughts.
Have a good day. Lee
