I found a nice '51 Hudson 4 door Commodore 6, with a rebuilt 262 and a Hydramatic that a friend owns and wants to sell for $1000. The only thing I'll have to do is put new tires on it and new brake hydraulics. It'll eventually need a total restoration, but is a running, driving car other than needing the brakes gone through. So tell me, does it sound like a deal?

Here's a link to a few pics I took from my cellphone last weekend: http://picasaweb.google.com/turbopackman327/CarPics#5345212966983229746

:DFrom the picture, the car looks in fair shape, but it also appears pretty straight. If it has been sitting in the gras very l;ong, check the frame, floors and trunk floor for rust. The rear frame sections are prone to rust. But if it checks out okay and you see potential, go for it. You do not buy a running driving Hudson anymore for a thousand dollars. Remember, you will put a lot of money in it just to make it a decent driver. Good luck, Arnie in Nevada

The whole car looks solid, and I'm well aware of the rust areas on Hudsons, having owned 10 of them at one time. And I figured it was a good deal, as I've been watching eBay lately and rusty junk ones are bringing more than that.

Lisa, I'm GLAD you told me! I'd LOVE to make it over there! I had no idea that it was going on, and this week no less! I plan on going to a car show at Lake Afton this Sunday, the 14th. Gonna make that one?

This week my love of Packards bled through, and instead of buying the '51 I bought a '48 Packard Deluxe Eight club sedan for the same price and pretty much the same condition. What can I say, a two door wins out over a 4 door any day!

Yep I'm a Hudson guy. I do not want to say anything bad about how your Packard looks, but I just do not see what you do.

Well, since they were in the same condition body wise and engine wise, I figured it was a no-brainer on which one to buy. That, and the fact that I've been chasing this exact same car for over 15 years and every time I got close to it it was sold out from under me. This time however, it didn't happen.

I'm not conversant in "Packard" (did own a '55 400 for awhile- nice car), but isn't the two door a pretty rare bird? Also, did they have a coupe as well as the 2 door sedan? Think I'd have had to go with the Pack as well, just based on rarity.

Extremely rare, it seems that there's fewer 2 door sedans than convertibles! As for a coupe, this is it, they didn't have any other 2 door cars until 1951.

I had two packards in the past one a 34-8 passenger and a 36 coupe. I have heard it said that these body styles are the types that only a mother could love--I would not mind being called "Mother." Nice car--I think I would have had to have them both? Can we see the finished photo's in about 6 months?:):)

I agree, it's a love/hate relationship with the looks of the bathtub "pregnant elephant" style Packards. I'm not too big of a fan of the standard 4 door style, but all the other body styles, coupe, convertible, wagon, limo, and hearse/ambulance look pretty neat.
