Help with Engine identification
-
Hello,
I have a 1955 Dodge Truck engine that I would like to know more information about. I know absolutely nothing about engines. I have some pictures of it.
Thanks -
To know more about your truck engine you need to look on the left side near the generator upper braket. There is a flat area that has the engine serial number and some letteres stamped into teh block. This information is very important since the letters and then the next number will tell you the specific model number. I have a 39 desoto and the serial number is S6xxxxxxx S6 identified the engine as belonging to a 39 Desoto since the 39 desoto was a model s6.
I am not a dodge expert but this will help when the other guys are respondint back to your questions. Get this and then repost.

You failed to say if the engine is a 6 or v-8. For the v-8, look at the machined area on the top of the block just ahead of the valley cover, assuming that the engine is somewhat original. If the intake manifold seals to the heads and block then it is an A series and the ID is stamped on the face of the block just below the driver side head gasket. For the early engines, post what you find or send a PM.
