Is anyone that logs onto this message board ever heard of a CADILLAC FLOWER CAR?

My understanding of the one that I've heard of "for sale" is that it's kind of like a chevy el camino pickup only it is a cadillac that is usually used to carry flower arrangements from the funeral parlor to the cemetery.

does anyone out there know what I'm refering to or is some one pulling my leg?

does anyone know of a collector car group that is dedicated to these vehicles?

    Bill,

I owned a Chrysler "Flower" car, it was a standard wagon with rollers installed in the floor in back. Kind of a plain Jane type but unique in it's own way.

No one is pulling your leg, there is indeed something called a "Flower Car". And it is just as you describe--a Cadillac El Camino. These were custom made vehicles manufactured by companys like Superior. Tony M.

Go to this site http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/prof_ndx.htm and go to something like year 1965. Scroll through the photos and you will see the Flower cars. They were made for many years.

    Hope this helps

Google up the site for the Professional Car Club; that's the main internet site that I am aware of for coachbuilt hearses, ambulances, flower cars and the like.

Either you must be very young or have not attended many funerals. Either one is good. Anyway, in addition to good information posted, have you ever seen the funeral scene in the movie The Godfather? There were at least 6 1950's era Cadillac flower cars in the procession. BTW, the car pictured here is more akin to a Traditional Coachworks LTD rendition of a pick-up model called Mirage. Typically, flower cars were produced using Cadillac's long wheelbase, commercial chassis and had a stainless steel flower deck. Some were even designed to double as a hearse. Due to special build features, professional cars are a hobby in and of themselves.

My cousin has a 1950 flower car sitting in his garage in indiana. Its pretty cool. When he found it, it was sitting in a garage in chicago since 1958 and covered with boxes. Not a spec of rust on it. It was half in primmer. We brought it home, put a battery in it, gas in the car and it started up. It ended up needing the carb rebuilt. It now sits in his pole barn for about the last 4 years untouched.
