Langs Old Car Parts?
-
Has anybody here used them? A friend of mine is looking at a rebuilt transmission for his model T from them.
Thanks,
Matt -
I've bought a lot of parts from them and they were top notch. They offer more T parts than anyone else. I've never bought any rebuilt parts but I believe they know their T's. I have read on the Model T Ford club of America forum however that sometimes T transmissions are better left alone unless they are completely worn out. It said that they were more likely to bind up due to tight clearances. There are no bearings, just bushings. It looks like if it were rebuilt properly (bushings reamed) that wouldn't be a problem. I rebuilt the engine in my 1914 T, but the only thing I did to the transmission was install a "jack rabbit" or "easy-glide" clutch. Got tired of jacking up a rear wheel to crank it. You can get a repair kit if the ears are worn where the large clutch plates ride in the drum if those are worn and save money. T transmissions are seemingly indestructable.

You are absolutley right. I have used them for years. If your friends T is just noisy, I would leave it alone and change the clutchs.
