1954 belair
-
Hello all, I just bought a 1954 belair 4dr sedan the car is equipped with a powerglide transmisson, power steering, and power brakes. Wanting to know are these options very common on this car, ive seen each of these options on different cars, but not all 3 on the same car. This is my 1st atempt at restoring any help welcome

Thje powerglide is/was common. But the power brakes and steering were not. I don't have any numbers, but I have only seen a couple of each in my 58 years.

After talking to several people, they seem to think that these options were added to the car, I really would like to know. The master cylinder and brake booster is on the firewall and the power steering pump is not mounted on the generator like everyone says it is supposed to be and the reservoir is in front of the oil filter housing and looks actually like another oil filter. Please help

Mike will probably know better then I but I believe that the power steering pump on the 54 was mounted to the front of the engine much like the present day pumps. It had a canister type reservoir monted up high and it had a cover on top similar to what the Cadilacs had. To check it you had to take the cover off and check to see that the fluid was up to the line. The pump that your friends are talking about that are mounted to the rear of the generator started in 1955.
The power brake booster was mounted to the firewall and in the engine compartment. It was a rather large booster and looked very similar to the ones on the Oldsmobile.
