'38 pickup for sale
-
In just received OCW: "Rare 1938 Hudson Terra-plane Express Pickup, silver, beautifully restored!".
This is part of "The Besser Collection" to be auctioned off July 25 beginning at 10 a.m. at Bolivar, Mo. You can bid online at: www.vanderbrinkauctions.com -
Just visited web site. They have a very poor quality video where they talk & show some of the cars, etc. Place has a lot of porcelain & neon signs inc. a Hudson one. There is also an AMX. The cars are touted as being restored & they all look to be. There are about 50 + cars & trucks inc. a Kaiser Darrin, a '56 T-Bird they say belonged to Gregory Peck, a '51 XKE, some so called "muscle cars", a Nash Healey, etc.
This is a no reserve auction. -
Here's that '38 - just to the left... (of course!).Colors (body/fenders) very similiar to what I want to do with my tan '46...
-
if you go to the video you can see some of it from the rear too.
-
wish I had a couple extra bucks to add this to the hudson pickup collection...38 would be my favorite truck! then again, a 39 would be right up there too!!

Guess there is always a chance that I'll hit the lottery between now and then.
As long as we're dreaming/wishing, I would also like to pick up a '37 - Like that one that was on eBay a while ago that looked like the Blue Goose's older brother...
-
got a 37, missing bed and rear fenders. got the blueprints for bed, but not sure about keeping it at this time. has a real solid cab/frame/sheetmetal. missed that one on ebay, was it complete?? what did it go for??

Here's a picture of it -
Another similarity - It was a 'cover truck' for 'Vintange Truck' magazine -

(click on picture to read more about this truck)
As was my 'Blue Goose' ("This Old Truck" magazine was renamed "Vintage Truck" magazine) - -
WOW!! I missed that one!! says it's a series 70 or 1/2 ton..does it look longer (3/4 ton) to you?? nice truck! looks like it was made to be a "blue goose II" and parked in your driveway!! I think I'll keep mine for now. what are you going to do with your 39??

On the '39 - I'm still actively searching for parts-n-pieces. My primary focus is on the '46. When I am not working-on or am frustrated with the '46 - I plug away on the '39 a bit.
- It is now up on blocks, while I try to find some decent tires and rims so that it can legitimately be called a 'roller'...
- I took off the the hood, grille, and fenders, in preparation for pulling the engine & trans. I want to see if the engine is salvageable, and look at the condition of the clutch & transmission - and probably get them rebuilt/repaired. -
sounds like you will have that 39 done someday!! seems to me the 38's and the 40's are the hardest to find, in any condition! I knew of a 1940 1/2 ton in nebraska back in 1997, should have bought it (needed LOTS of work on body). never seen a 38 in the rough for sale to this day! good luck on the 46!!
-
Here is a pic of a 1940 Hudson ute made back in the late 50's by my father and late brother, body shell is 1937 married to a '40 front end and home made rear section, we used this in the Hudson business way back then. When I first got my licence I drove the old ute every where, was very reliable, note the front bar, this was used for pushing wrecks around the yard.
By the way, my late brother at one stage had a 1940 factory ute many years ago as well, wish I knew where it was today. He bought it smashed and rebuilt it._123714219346513.jpg)

ute's are just too cool! wish I could find one here, but you guy's got all of them sent to you!! I imagine the high cost of buying one of them there ($$$), then the boat ride here ($$$), would keep them all there! nice truck! still around somewhere??
-
Lost track of that ute many moons ago, would be cool to have it these days.
It would be a lot cheaper for you guys to buy from us and ship to the USA, look at the difference of your $ to our $ and yet we are still buying from you guys and shipping to Australia. -
How about this ute a 1936 Terraplane.

now that is COOL!! 36 is a nice year for terraplane!! how much would a ute go or in your dollars??
-
Never see them for sale.
-
Last time I saw a Hudson UTE for sale was about 3 years ago - was a '39, and was in pretty sad shape. Still, it didn't meet the reserve - don't know what ever happened to it. Hope someone eventually got it, and that it will or has been restored.
There have been some nice threads posted here on UTEs, the big problem is, they are hard to find... Seems the "Search" on this forum requires four characters in a word before it will do a search... UTE does not qualify - -
Rick, try typing in "Utility" in the search section, this may help.
Ute is an abreviation for utility. Aussie slang.LOL. -

I can try - but think that most posts refer to Ute. I thought I had saved some pictures of that '39 Hudson UTE that was for sale, but can't seem to find them anywhere. Oh well...
Here's the post on that '39 UTE that was for sale - However no existing photos of it. From the thread, you seemed to be aware of it... Any update on what happened to it?

Update -FOUND a picture of it! It was in the new HET Photo Album area!
I wish I had the $$ pockets to acquire and restore it...
-
Let me just interject here, that the link http://hudsonpix.multiply.com/ takes you to the photo album's homepage, which explains how to use it.

Thanks for pointing that out Jon - I changed the link in my comment, to reflect the hompage of the photo album... :o
-
I would settle for the red and black Crosley pickup!
Barry Smedley
53' Super Jet
and a bunch of Crosley's (but not a pickup) -
Don't think anybody has bought the '39 ute down under, doesn't seem to be any interest in ute's down here for some reason, if my memory serves me correctly a lady owned it and started to restore it, but, then I believe had a marriage break up, so ended the story.
-
I wish I was in Australia to buy that 39 ute. I would ship it back! that would really look good next to my other pickups! (they get lonely when parked). bed on those look just like stude coupe express beds.

here is another one from down under,35 Terra. we picked it up 25 years ago it had the front bumper against a shed & a tree growing between it & the grille so took off the bumper & pulled the ute away cut the tree down & retrieved the bumper, the owner gave us the ute for cutting down the tree.
By the time we got it home [ 250 miles] the chassis had broken from the rust & the rest of it wasn't in much better condition.

I'd just tow that 35 around on the trailer and be happy! what a cool ute that is!! ragtop 35 tplane pickup, just sounds like something you gotta see!! thanks for the great pictures!
-
Very cool, I would do any tree trimming to be paid with something like that!
-
i have been to this place in boliver and looked at all thes cars and trucks- pretty darn cool. i may have to go to the auction since it's not that far, not that i have enough cash to buy one. hr
