Steering Box for 47 Brougham
-
I am in the process of fitting a 302 ford engine and automatic transmission in my 47 Brougham and need to find a steering box that will fit the frame, clear the engine and connect to the original steering linkage. Does anyone have any suggestions? Don't necessarily need a power steering unit but it would be nice. Would prefer a Ford unit as it would be easier to connect to the Ford power steering pump that came on the engine.
BTW the transmission crossmember from an 83 E150 fits perfectly in case anyone else is performing this swap. -
Get in touch with Fred McClusky from Florence Alabama. He is in the roster. He has a beautiful 47 with rack and pinion and late model engine and trans.

I also plan on installing a Ford 9" rear axle from a 71-73 Mustang or Cougar as soon as I can locate one.
I would appreciate any info (pictures, comments, etc.) from anyone who has performed this conversion to a small block Ford drivetrain. -
You might check with Bill Brown in Killen, Alabama. His 47 is also modified with a later drive train. Should be listed in the roster and close friend of Freddie McCluskey. Bill is the VPresident of the MidSouth Club. Good luck, Bob

Not sure about your 47. I have a 51 Hudson Pacemaker with a dodge aspen front clip and steering box, 1973 351 cleveland engine, 8 inch maverick rearend. I tried to put a 9 inch lincoln in my hud and it was too wide. Rearend still sitting under a tree. I have frenched in y2K taillights and 85 jaguar gas tank flip lid. Rivera front and back seats. Cadillac steering teloscopic, tilt wheel. Hope to have it running soon.
