Where to find magazine ads for'49?
-
I'd like to find some old magazines with Hudson advertising. Can anyone direct me to specific issues of Life magazine or something similar that has '49 ads? I'm thinking I can find some on EBay. I'd like the whole magazine, not just a cut out.

If you want to search Life Magazine some libraries have this book series of all Life magazines (every issue) bound up in book form in volumes. That way you can look through them for ads and find out which issue/date you are looking for.
-
You could simply go to a company that finds, frames and sells those ads, like this one: http://www.adclassix.com/ . Or you can contact one of the used magazine sellers like http://www.oldlifemagazines.com/ to see if they can pinpoint the issue(s) you need, and sell them to you.
Do some Googling. -
Life, Look, Saturday Evening Post, Newsweek, Time, Reader's Digest, The New Yorker --- You need to find issues from between July of 1948 and June of 1949 for what you need. Just start looking at your library! Half the fun is in the looking! So, get to it! I'll bet you could pick up ANY issue from ANY of those from that time frame and find what you want. It isn't all that difficult. Sounds like you want someone to say "Find a September 14, 1948 issue of Life and there is a Pacemaker ad on Page 24".
Hit the yard sales, local estate auctions, bookstores, etc. Go find them!"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
Thanks for all the input, I'll try the library. I should of thought of this myself, but in these modern times I often overlook the obvious and go to the internet first.

I've looked at Life magazine for 49 and no ads there. Hudson must have been trying some different deomgraphics. Any tips?

Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal - try those.
I got a CD here with some ads from that era - I'll check it tomorrow, if I can remember where I put it.
