i recently came across someone lookin to sell his 67 convert., i am new to the website and new to classic mustangs overall, my old man and grandfather are both retired FoMoCo employees so Ford has been in the family over 55 years...... iv always loved mustangs and now i have a possibility to own one..... its a red 67 convert with with black top/interior, came with a straight 6 but in mid 70's was swapped out along with the tranny for a 289 and a c-4 from a 67 fastback, everythin was done but the rearend i wanna believe, the car was a daily driver for a LONG time so the body has some blemishes from what i can tell from the pictures.....it is and was garage kept for a long time.....i would like to know what the value of this car is to an enthusiest..... im looking for an inexpesive and fun little toy for drive and play with yet i dont wanna take a major hit since its NOT a numbers matching car........ any thoughts??

A very nice looking car for sure.

What I would suggest is that you, or someone familiar with these cars, inspects it very closely. Prices of these can, in what appears to be very nice condition, be around $25,000.00 on up. Of course in this economy, I think that the old car pricing is down and it appears that way as I watch the latest B/J auctions.

These are uni-body cars and the torque boxes are prone to rotting out. Also look at the shock towers and around the inner fenders.

I am from the school that when I am spending that kind of money that I will take whatever time I need to inspect something and maybe even do it twice. Better still, get someone to go with me as two pair of eyes are better then one even if the one you bring is not a savy car guy. I would also want to see the car up in the air to get a good look at the underside.

If the guy balks at any of this, sorry, walk away. Of course you did not say what the guy wants for it so that will have a bearing on things.

I'm sorry it's not the greatest advice but in todays market, money is worth a lot more to me and I would hate to see someone get burned by a nice cosmetic car. Just be sure of what you are getting is all.

    Hope this helps

the man who is looking to sell the car is a contractor and is doin work at the house and is good friends with the family..... his uncle was the original buyer of the vehical in 67......it was daily drivin and garage kept...... i have not yet physically seen the car other then the pictures so im not committing to anythin, although i talked to him bout gettin up to the garage to fire it up...... like i said im lookin for somethin to just play aorund with and drive, i know its not numbers matchin due to the motor swap, will this depreciate the value of the car or will it actually help me if and when i ever decide to sell it......the car was appraised at 7,600..... it could use alittle TLC but no major work has to be done from what i hear, like i said i still have to look at it, it has new tires/breaks/ exhaust........ he said hed sell it to me for 5,500..... its becomming a burrden to him and he just wants to unload it......im just lookin to own a classic stang and not take a major loss or sink alot into...... seems like it would be the perfect car.......

At that price, I think it's a great deal.

My personal opinion of the matching numbers route is: It doesn't matter, as long as it runs good.
