If gas is leaking from the area that you describe, it will be due to a flooding condition. The area that you show is a part of the throttle shaft that runs through the carb.

With the engine running, if it is leaking fuel there, look down the throat of the carb and see if there is any gas dripping down from the main metering jets. You should see NO fuel with the car at idle while you look down the carb. You need to be sure that the idle is set properly first of course, as if the idle is set to high you will be running off the main circuit and you don't want that.

If there is gas leaking there with the engine off, then you probably have to high a float level.

Hope this helps and keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply, the thing about the floats makes sense, its winter here so i dont drive my car, i had it started 2 weeks before and just after starting a fire ball came from there ? so i shut it down, just a couple days ago (2 weeks after i started it) i was under hood changing air filter assembly and i notice small puddle of gas right under that screw i circled in the picture ? right now the carb is off the car because is just not safe, is there something i should replace ?

You haven't mentioned if you checked to see if the fuel was dripping down the throat of the carb while the engine was running.

More then likely the best solution would be to rebuild the carb. Taking your time and a thorough cleanning should net you the best results.

yes there was a fire ball though so looking down the carb is not likely, can u recommend me a rebuild kit for this ? there is so many , some with more parts than others, also while taking apart i noticed one of the fuel bowl bolts was stripped, can this be tapped to a 1/4" ? helicoil cant be found around here...

First, did the fireball happen because you worked the throttle? Just on star-up? At high idle? For no reason?

You may just need a float adjustment. I guess I would look at how long has the carb been sitting around or when has it been worked on last? If it were mine and I was going to rebuild it, I think I would opt for the best kit I could buy with as many parts in it as possible. After all, it should last a good long while after you're done.

As to the stripped bolt (or is it one of the screws that hold the bowl cover on? I really don't know if you could drill and tap it. You will have to look and see how much material you have.

May I ask what this carb is on? I know these were direct replacements for Quadrajets.

    Sorry I'm not more help

no your very helpful, its hard to get good responses on these forums, the carb is on my 1984 camaro z28, the carb has been sitting for a couple years for sure

the fireball was when i first started, i pressed the gas to keep it going because it doesnt want to idle in the cold and POW fireball came, after it warmed up it seemed to idle ok but two weeks after that incident i was changing air filter and notice small puddle of gas on intake...

as for the bolt its one of the 4 hex bolts that holds on the fuel bowl, holley for some strange stupid #%$@ reason uses 12/24 bolt size which is impossible to find here, there is clearance for a 1/4 bolt, but i wanted to make sure this can be done before i screw it up, Thanks for your time.

Well, if all else fails, have you thought of trying to find a Quadrajet to replace it. It should bolt right in.

Sorry I can't help with the drill and tap. I would think that the casting is not strong enough to take that, but I couldn't say for sure.

The backfire when you started it was probably due to a lean condition. A cold engine needs a rich mixture and if the choke is set to lean or a pull-off set to open the choke plate to wide when cold will give you that lean condition and the backfire.

Personally, I would probably try to clean the carb and make all the adjustments without a new kit and re-try it. The only things that wear out are things like the accelerator pump skirt, the power valve may leak.

hey, just got the carb back on the car had the bowl gaskets changed and adjusted, still a small leak coming right from around the accelerator pump, im wondering what exactly i should change to fix this and at the same time is it worth it to upgrade to a 50cc ? and do i just need the 50cc accelerator pump diaphragm or do i need the whole conversion kit ? Thanks.
