Packard Barn Find
-
I think I might have stumbled upon a rare Packard yesterday in a barn around the corner from my house. The gentleman in ownership of the car stated it was a 1926. I don't know much about Packard but the car appears very regal with suicide doors and a beveled (split)front windshield. The owner also stated that the car has an aluminum body. Stuffed away in this barn was also a 34 Ford 3 Window coupe a few Model A's and a Model T pick-up. Unforntunatly the owner of the barn and vehicles refuses to part with any of them. I offered to buy the 34. I am going to try to get a serial number of the Packard and a pix the next time I go back there. I hate to see these cars continue to rot away in this barn but the owner stated he would rather crush them all then sell them.

Why in the world would someone do something like that? It would be a shame to see these cars get crushed no matter what the present condition. Some people just have no scrupples.
-
Apparently this gentlemen is known to be a little off the wall. I told him I would stop by with my 49 Hudson so maybe I can get him to soften up a bit.
-
Sounds like he ought to be UNDER the wall.

SGNL,
Sounds like a great plan, invade the camp and befriend him so maybe he won't have to sell the cars to some stranger, but GIVE them to you !!!!!!!!!!!
I like the plan myself. I'm sure that there are still many finds out there and wish you the best of luck. What state is this in?
(gee, maybe I'll move from this cold Illinois. lol)

It is strange that some people will hold onto an old car and not either restore or sell it. As if "if I can't retore it no one will have it." Or perhaps people in the past have insulted him with absurdly low offers.
-
If you have worked around or restored old cars for very long ,the type of individual described will come onto your radar screen. They gloat over how many cars they have . It's all about possession, nor restoration. I know too many stories of guys who let them rot so no one could have them.Or the moment he dies one of his kids sells them for scrap or the widow has them hauled off . Good luck. The best thing to do is just wait them out and hope

this is how you deal with the guy,i have bought many old motorcycles and cars when all the rest couldt, talk with him and give him a ride in your car, take him down to the icecream store, opps, ok then take him to the bar. ok then go mortgage your house first if you dont have a BIG! pile of 100 dollar bills, fold them up in your pocket and make sure its noticable, when again the purchase comes up,pull out the pile of cash in your hand and tell him that you are prepared to buy a car or all of them,, THAT BUYS CARS! NOT TALK!start peeling off the bennies and you tell him to stop you when he has enough,, this is no bull CASH TALKS IT WORKS!

....and if he has a wife, make sure she knows who you are and that you are seriously interested in his cars. Because at some point she may end up inheriting them!
