1955 crown vic body styles
-
Can anyone tell me the difference in regards to the body style between a 1955 Crown Victroria 2dr hardtop and a 2dr sedan? I'm trying to find the right carpet for this car. I always thought if there's a "b" pillar post, than it's a sedan, no post means h-top. I've seen pics of both(h-top and sedan), and they both have posts. What gives...?

the victoria does not have a post the the sedan is a 2dr and has a post-B pillar]
there was also a 4 dr sedan--
the crown vic was a totally different body style - the Bpillar was slanted back and it had a wide crown of chrome trim across the top that connected with the side trim--
to answer your qusetion -the crown vic does not look like a 2dr sedan-- -
In 55 Ford had the Fairlane Victoria which was a 2 dr. hardtop (no B pillar).
They had the Crown Victoria which was a 2 dr. that had a chrome band running over the top from the beltline on one side to the beltline on the other and running between the front and rear side windows. They also had the Crown Victoria with the glass roof which ran from the Basket handle chrome piece running over the top and the front windshield and covering from side to side.
The sedan was a standard vehicle that had the pillar between the front side window and the rear side window and a frame attached to the front door that surrounded the glass when in the up position.
Each one of these had their own body style number.
If you are asking if the Crown Victoria is a sedan, my answer would be yes.

i agree- the carpet should be the same for the crown vic and the 2 dr sedan--

There is a difference in the rear carpet due to how the rear cushion sits on the floor,I know the convertible and crown vic are the same and the 2/4 door sedan and hardtop might be the same. The convertible/crown vic have a riser welded to the floor where the rear cushion sits on and the sedans and possibly the hardtop does not have the riser and the cusihon goes all the way to the floor, the convertible/crown vic rear cushion is not cut out to go over the drive shaft hump and the sedans and possibly the hard top do have a cut out to go over the hump. The front half of the carpet is the same and a sedan rear half could be cut down to use on a convertible/crown vic but a convert/vic rear carpet would be too short for a sedan. Jeff

I would think a Crown Vic would have the same carpet as a 2dr ht. I mean, after all it is a Crown Victoria = ht.

Even though they both share the same basic body the rear seats are different, the crown vic and sunliner kind of share the same rear seat and the hardtop has a rear seat similar to a sedan if my memory is correct.
