1965 Chevy won't run
-
1965 Chevy with 293 auto. Will start and idle but when trying to accelerate it dies. Can very slowly accerlerate or pump the accerlator lightly to get it to rev up. checked ignition, timed it and set carb. any ideas? Thanks!

I'll assume that the engine number was a typo and should be 283.
I would start by checking the accelerator pump. With the engine off, look down the throat of the carb and work the throttle. You should see a strong stream of fuel (actually 2 of them) squirt into the carb.
How long has it been since someone has gone through the carb? It may have plugged transition ports or a low float level.
When you checked the timing, did you happen to notice if the mechanical and vacuum advance was working properly?
There's nothing worse then having a nagging problem that takes so many hours and checks to find.
Keep us posted.

Sorry, it was a typo. I installed a new distributor and also an electronic ignition kit at the same time so i am sure the vacume advance works ok. I purchased this carb rebuilt two or three years ago but the car has sat around alot in storage. I pulled the carb off and purchased a rebuild kit so i will try that. it sounded like it had a vacume leak somewhere but couldn't find one. Thanks for the suggestions and will let you know how it goes. Thanks!
